tim williams has been closely watching the storm. first, mike hellgren is live in west baltimore with the aftermath from the storms last night. good morning. it was ferocious. very powerful. you can see the power of mother nature here. >> reporter: this enormous tree, lightning and the wind combined here to make quite a disaster area. we're still dealing with a a lot of cleanup around the area and a lot of power outages with the sun bearing down and people not wanting to stay inside with no air conditioning. the fierce straight line winds came quickly in maryland topping tropical storm levels, in some places at more than item item miles an hour they were at strong as a category one hurricane. a child suffered head injuries after the roof was blown off this home in baltimore county. debris littered the yard. >> the neighbor next door to me, they left the house. they had the fire department here. some branches and the winds ripped off the backside of their roof on the second floor. >> i never really saw this type of wind blow up before

meteorologist tim williams is tracking the latest conditions now. tim. >>> well, gigi we're looking at storms that rolled through here yesterday. the rain -- continued basically to move on through the region. we're looking at all types of damage across the area due to winds that stayed intact across the midwest yesterday and into our area. first warning weather radar tells the story. we will set it back. what we're watching here is the radar yesterday evening. around noontime last night, at 11:00, bob was following the storms moving through maryland. they triggered severe thunderstorm warnings across the area for good reason. the wind created problems. right now we went from a daytime high yesterday of 103 to temperatures in the 70s now. that's where we started to, but the dew point is high. this moisture is what the storms were working with. we started off with 70s and go back up again to temperatures around 100 degrees. that comes also with the slight to modeled risk of severe weather. this will come in the form of winds and hail for the entire are

meteorologist tim williams in the first warning weather center this morning. very busy. m. >>> very busy indeed, don. good morning, everyone. we're watching the remainder of the storms that rolled through here yesterday continuing to push offshore. they moved from the southwest to the northeast, that's the direction that they continue to move. so, our neighbors to the north. in new york and new england seeing the same activity that we saw yesterday. what we're seeing also is a bit of a calming down, but areas around virginia that are getting pops of thunderstorms right now. we're starting to calm down. much of the moisture is being pulled offshore with the storms. so, we're dealing with cooler and calmer conditions, the temperatures are close to average, 78 degrees. right now 59. we did calm down nicely after midnight or so. ocean city seeing the last bit of the clouds and the rain now. now, all of that activity is starting to push off to the atlantic. 83% humidity. the northwest wind will cool us down. the barometer will go up as the high pressure takes grip. 47 in oakla

bob turk and tim williams are tracking the rising temperatures. first here's bob. >> yes , they are about the same as they were yesterday. the only caveat is it's a little bit drier than it was. # -- 98 now, 81 in oakland, easton the hot spot at 99 degrees. locally temperatures ranging from 93 up in westminster, annapolis and kent island to 89 in columbia. tim in the out back will book at the advisories and relief on the way. >> reporter: the advisories have been issued being in effect from yesterday until tomorrow afternoon. more of the state of central maryland up and down 95 we're looking at the heat index of around 100 which triggers that heat advisory which is around 10 o'clock tonight when we expect do to the see relief, 1 a.m. on the eastern shore which is where an excessive heat warning is in effect. we're going to watch the temperatures until this weekend when we see relief. relief comes by way of storms which will bring a transition in temperatures tomorrow afternoon. the heat index around 100 tomorrow. maybe about 10 degrees difference

let's go to tim williams. hi. >> good afternoon. we're watch watching some pop up storms rolling around the area. actually, the one that triggered this thunderstorm warning out in washington county until 4:30 is actually moving past the area. it's actually moved already through the county. this is what's going to be the case through out the afternoon. i'll take you in just a little bit and you can get an idea of how this is going on. these are going to be the case through out the afternoon. what we're going to be seeing are just some widely scattered storms. this system is going to continue to move out of here. it moved through, triggered the severe thunderstorm warning and the system moved out of there. while it's in place until 4:30 the storm that triggered it is gone. let's take a look at the watching and warnings. actually what we're going to be seeing here are the watches and warnings in a fluid pattern. they're going to be moving in and out through the afternoon. we don't see much arnold -- around most of the metro area. we wi

tim williams is handling the forecast from the outback. good afternoon and good thinking, tim. >>> this will stay this way. but it's going to change a little. we are locked under a pattern that will stay pretty much in place for the next few days for the foreseeable future. temperatures will stay below average which is now at 0 degrees -- 80 degrees. doppler tells the story. we had severe thunderstorms roll through or at least warnings that rolled through yesterday. they were lifted fairly quickly. the low pressure is up to the northeast. it's in a bit of a rotation and will be keek moisture our way, also pulling down cool air. the way it all sets up with temperatures staying in the 70s. we're already at 71. you see 60s around the region. we have 74 down on the shore. those temperatures will go up a little bit but here's how it plays out. we stay in an unseasonably cool mode. the jet stream has taken a dip which will allow that to stay over us. high pressure eventually moves on in. it will take until roughly the weekend to do it. we'll have

meteorologist tim williams and bob turk have the answers for us. and they have the updated forecast. we'll start inside with bob. >>> a beautiful end to the week. after a fabulous week. for the most part, it was just pleasantly cool. take a look at temps now. 84. that was the warmest it's been all week. 85 in washington. 74 in oakland. and 75 down at ocean city. now, over the weekend, it's going to get probably a little warmer tomorrow than today. and on sunday, we could get close to 90 degrees in many spots upon because we'll continue to have that west/southwest of us. to the north of us, heading up that way, there will be scattered showers and cooler temperatures. now, speaking of temperatures, tim has a look at just how warm this past year has been across the region. tim? >> well, definitely, if you know that you have been thinking that we've had extremely warm temperatures, through the winter, through the spring, you are definitely correct on that. the national weather service released its findings from the period of last june through may. so t

let's go immediately to bob turk and tim williams. >> at last report, 98, 90 ocean city, a cooler 81 out in oakland. d.c. at 95. locally, low to mid-90s, and some upper 90s still in the city over in columbia, and our heat index, in other words, the way it feels, 99. 10 2 in easton, and 97 ocean city. i guess the only good news is, the advisory, the heat index advisory has been lifted for much of central maryland except over on the eastern shore and to areas north of our region still that have advisory until late tonight. tim in the outback with more on these temperatures. tim. >> well, if there's anything like breaking news from the weather department this is definitely it. we've been waiting for the official numbers to come in at bwi marshall. it is official. we did hit 100 degrees today for a brief time at the airport which ties the record back in 1923. so today, 98 degrees for much of the afternoon, and we did spike just for a brief time. so we did actually hit 100 degrees at bwi which meant that the heat index, as bob mentioned, was down in the low 100's, 100 to 105 through much

meteorologist tim williams and bob turk are updating just how hot it got today. >> let's take a look at current temperatures right now. they may be updating shortly. last report 98, 95 in d.c., 90 in ocean city. around the local area, temperatures ranging from a low to mid-90s, upper 90s in most of the urban areas, the city and columbia there at 91 degrees with the dew point in the low 60s, it feels more like 100. yesterday this hour it felt like 101, so it's a little bit dryer. however, easton at 105, elkton at 101, that's the way it feels on your skin. oakland only at 83. now, there are still advisories going into effect across the region until 10:00 tonight. all of central maryland, as you can see, east of the blue ridge. and to our east they even have a excessive heat warning until 1:00 a.m. tim is in the outback with more on the temperatures and how they relate to records. >> we've definitely been knocking on the doorstep of these record temperatures for the last day, and we will again through tomorrow until some relief comes this weekend. let's take a look. the average hey righ

meorologist tim williams and bob turk are monitoring this. let's begin with bob. >> let's take a look at these temperatures. and once again, it has been very dry out there. things are drying up. 85, very comfortable. 85 with a dew point of 49. actually feels like 82. oakland, 73. ocean city at 83. but for friday, withadditional heat, coming our way, they will issue what we call an excessive heat watch. that meanstemperatures in the upper s. and it feellias high as 105 by the afternoon. now, there is an increased fire threat for the region. here are the reasons why. it's been very, very dry lately. so we have low humidity. so those gusty winds at least a while longer. and at least no dewiread ra across the reon the s. tim in outback ok th at the temperatures that are headed this way. and what we expect here the next four or five days. tim? >> if you look at everything and you add what we kidnap to see in our forecast the next severadays, it only heightens the concerns. all of these temperatures you see. look atsas ci. smack in the middleof you

coverage continues with tim williams on the latest with the heat and the wildfire threat for us in maryland tim? >> jessica, we've had heightnd fire concerns over the last few days because we've had such dry conditions, no appreciable rain, low humidity and breezy conditions, which basically dries out all the moisture on the ground. and going into the weekend with grills and fireworks, a cause for concern. we have 93 degrees here, of course,. take a look at the western temperatures, 1505, 104 in kansas city. 89 where the temperatures just dropped because of some rain out toward the west. the temperatures have dropped because of the rain cooling things off. the warm air is moving in our direction. while we're not expecting wildfires, we could see concerns. as far as our temperatures for the next few days or so, we're going to be watching the temperatures going up around 99 degrees tomorrow or so. the low humidity, gusting winds and no rain could add to the concerns. nothing is really going to add up and drop that fire concern. so, again, the enhanced wildfire threat is in play. we do have he

tim williams is here with the updated numbers from first warning weather. you can feel the difference today. >> it is just creeping up there. the america mercury, humidity, dew points feeling summer like in these last days of june and first days of july. take a look at the current temperatures. we're at 93 at bwi mar shall, 95 down towards the dc suburbs and dc. that 95 stretch up and down the stretch from philadelphia down towards dc is definitely heating up. what we're watching now is a heat index going into effect that's going to create basically some problems. so a heat advisory is in effect for tomorrow from 11:00 a.m. through 9:00 p.m. heat advisory indicating the heat and humidity could create some heat illness. stay shaded and drink plenty of water. we're going to watch temperatures coming in from the south and southwest. 98 in kansas city, 97 in memphis. all that air is coming in our direction. chicago at 98 on the great lakes. our forecast temperatures for the next few days look like this. 99 tomorrow, very easily high the -- tie the record of 100
