according to the tsa administrator and the tsa witnesses that were scheduled to be here today, the scanners represent the best available methods to detect the threat items concealed on the passenger such as the christmas a bomber. we should be willing to explore whether or not it is in fact the case. we must also weigh the technology against america's legitimate privacy interest. by now we have all seen copies of body scanning images that show more than any of us would like publicly to reveal. have they taken significant steps to address the concerns understand there is additional technology available and in the testing as we speak that would obviate the concerns altogether. if this is the case i would encourage the tsa to expedite the testing of the technology and deploy it as rapidly as possible if it is effective in identifying anomalies. it is worth noting according to the cbs poll conducted november of 2010 an overwhelming majority of americans, 81% approve of the use of the whole body scanning devices at the airports. that doesn't take away from the legitimate privacy concerns we shar

tsa is responsive to congress.e all understand the it frustration that travelers have what the particular officer or the experience they go through on that day. we can easily. the finger at tsa, asked the question, why are they acting the way they are? we have a congress that has put us in this policy where we can eliminate all risk. therefore, we need to go through all the various procedures that gsa does every day. -- tsa does every day. congress needs to embrace that and embracetsa the ability to be more flexible. i met with their administrator and had this conversation. tsa and the administrator would like to be more innovative, more nimble than they are. the pressure starts on capitol hill and that is where the change needs to take place. host: a post from the internet. why this is doomed to fail. is this the control of process that locks innovative competition. in response to queries, tsa points fingers at program vendors and vice versa. guest: if we only implement this through tsa, we will not make a lot of

tsa has the report from the police department, when will tsa commence that investigation? >> i believe that tsa is -- their investigation is underway and in addition, you know, we learn from all these incidents. every time there's a breach of whatever type, it is something we say okay, what happened here. is it repetition? what needs to happen systemically? you're right to point out the hub nature. it is something that reminds us you know, perimeter, which as you know, the tsa doesn't control. it has standards that airports are supposed to abide by with respect to perimeters. we're looking at all that afresh in light of this incident. any kind of incident. >> let me try for the sake of time -- all the way along, i have a greater sense of urgency when a breach of this nature occurs that could threaten not only this airport, then i suppose many other people it seems, but to me, i'm a bit dumbfounded that that sense of urgency has resulted in quicker action. i have had the chance on my own to and with some assistance, to look at some minimum standards, which i will not discus

if you have a felony going back seven years, you cannot work at the port without going through a tsaackground check. 1.5 million workers this past year had to go through that. those are everywhere, but there are some basic employment rights that people have, and here in california, we have some good laws on the books. we'll talk about reform of these losses some more. i will be happy to talk about that now, but i just want to mention there are some good laws that protect workers. for example, you have this issue -- you had multiple levels of access to all this criminal record information. first, you have the state criminal record system that is basically to upload all the local county records. of the federal criminal records system, which is considered the cadillac of the record systems out there. it is an accumulation of all the state records, and then you have private screening firms -- big corporations that are making a lot of money on criminal background checks, credit checks, and all that. in california, those laws are pretty heavily regulated. for example, the private screening
