so, this is the new jersey turnpike.fficially still blocked between exit one and exit two so why do you see this traffic's sneaking by? 4 miles of backed up traffic. they've been stuck out there since 3:30 this morning. and they're just now allowing some of those people to get off to work here and they're all going on the shoulder very slowly past the scene with the fire still coming out here. the smoke on the tractor-trailer. so, a horrible scene. we've got police. we're hearing that we have tow trucks coming to the scene right now as well. this is fire crews here, fire crews now off to the shoulder southbound an the new jersey turnpike so southbound is getting by. northbound it's a mess. they're allowing 4 miles of backed up traffic just to squeeze by this scene. the action cam live on the scene right now in woolwich township gloucester county. i want to show you maps and get an idea of where this is. so here's the accident scene blocking all traffic northbound between exit one and exit two for 322. what you can do is

"eyewitness news" reporter steve patterson joins us along the turnpike in bensalem.e's got the very latest. steve. >> reporter: natasha police and officials tell me the driver in this case was pronounced dead at the scene. meanwhile as you mentioned four workers affected by this crash, four of them injured two of them sustained minor injuries, they were taken to the hospital treated and released and another two in that group sustained serious injuries. one of them had to undergo surgery this afternoon. we're checking back forup dates. in the meantime this comes just a month into a major safety campaign from the pennsylvania turnpike commission telling drivers to slow down especially when they are in these work zones. for hours the only traffic left on this busy stretch of the pennsylvania turnpike didn't even amount to one car. officials say it happened shortly before 5:30 saturday morning. police say this car traveling eastbound near the bensalem interchange entered a construction zone, struck a construction vehicle injuring four construction workers. the driver of

the bridge spans the turnpike. they say it's a constant worry working in a construction zone where you have a major roadway or highway going through, people speed really, really fast and there's always a fear that they can get hit and injured, if not killed, by a driver. now, as far as getting around this mess as i said eastbound lanes are completely blocked off here so you're going to have to take route 1 south to route 132, then east to route 13 and then north and that will take you back over to the delaware valley interchange of the turnpike and you can continue on your way on the eastbound -- on the turnpike that way. so if you're coming out on the turnpike, just be aware the eastbound lanes or blocked in bensalem as you won't be able to get around as the investigation continues. live jesse gary nbc 10 news. >> new from overnight, philadelphia police are investigating a deadly crash. this happened in cobbs creek. a chrysler hit a toyota. the chrysler flipped over and caught on fire. two people in the chrysler w

a lot of turnpike vehicles and police officers are out there.s been out there for several hours now. so, you can see the long line of traffic as chopper pans back waiting to get past that accident scene. here's what i'm recommending. after you come over the connector bridge from new jersey look at that traffic. just all stacked up stretching for quite a few miles. after you come over the bridge from new jersey, bail out at delaware valley. then you can take route 13 on down the street -- to street road run street road over to route one take route one northbound for the short stretch and then you can get on the westbound side of the turnpike and you'll be west of where the accident s of course we'll keep watching that. we've also been watching 422 this morning because you may remember yesterday afternoon i was telling you about this. right here. the road buckled. first road buckle of the season eastbound lanes just east of oaks. , see they patched it and this morning the traffic on 422 eastbound is getting by. so far without too much of a delay.

and, and this is a large roadway over the portion of the pennsylvania turnpike. tonight officials from pennsylvania turnpike commission are urging motorist to slow it down, when in work zones as one motorist is dead and four construction workers were injured. authorities say that the driver of this car slammed into a construction vehicle and died at the scene. the contract crash injured several contracted workers on the bensalem job site on the turnpike i-95 link. the neighbor michael grown goer took these pictures, which overlooks the busy roadway. medivac'd transported one of the workers hit to temple hospital in critical condition. ambulance transported a second employee to frankford torresdale. according to turnpike officials a total of four construction workers were hurt after the motorist drove into the work zone just before 5:30 a.m. the employees were in the middle of the changing a traffic pattern in the eastbound lanes, one worker was driving construction vehicle, two workers outside picking up traffic cones and a third in the back of the truck receivin

here's an update on the closure of the new jersey turnpike. the massty accident. it happened around 4:00 right when we went on the air here. two tractor trailers, a bus and vehicle. now one of those tractor trailers caught fire and there is some debris, clean up, and obviously they have to hand off load one of those tractor trailers. bottom line it happened right here on approaching exit number two on the north bound side. they clean it up, all of the stuck traffic and right now anyone coming over delaware memorial bridge forced to go north on 295. so it is closed, between exit number one and two on the north bound side, and southbound there is a a lot of emergency equipment tend to go that accident, but there is the right shoulder getting on by on that southbound side. 295, is best alternate otherwise, in problems up and down the northeast extension but we do have have some fog delays as sue mentioned. here's a live look at route 309, just a above the pennsylvania turnpike and it is thick. comes up on you fast at times. hit and miss. here's a live look look benja

a crash on the pennsylvania turnpike is raising concerns about safety and construction work zones.our workers were injured and a driver was killed after a crash in bensalem.
