there's about 80 to 100 protesters marching from the western end of the uc berkeley campus. i touched base with one of the people in @ crowd and he said that the protesters were just now starting to leave their starting point at center in downtown berkeley. their plan is to end up here at berk berkeley and convince the city council to make changes to police department policy, particularly when it comes to use of force and dealing with large demonstrations. police using tear gas

getting into the program side this is some data that is collected by uc berkeley for all schools in san francisco. the walking rate at the highest ever. this is the highest since it was started in 2010. the vast majority of schools with the highest rate of walkers have 75% or more on the reduced or free lunch program and there is a connection to that. biking is happening but more work to there. the walking drops dramatically when we get to sixth grade and 4% when we get to ninth grade. and then this is a survey that's done just of the schools that participate last year in the safe routes to school program so we saw walk trips increase at nine of the 15 schools. that is 60% and bike trips increased at% -- 40% of the schools and this is (paused) . and just to introduce our crossing guard program which has been very popular. this is application based. any school can request it. some of the criteria needs to be the k-8. a corner must be designated as a crossing and have the yellow crosswalk and a minimum of 300 vehicles an hour and 10 pedestrians every 10 minutes. we offer free training for

there's about 80 to 100 protesters marching from the western end of the uc berkeley campus. i touched base with one of the people in @ crowd and he said that the protesters were just now starting to leave their starting point at center in downtown berkeley. their plan is to end up here at berk berkeley and convince the city council to make changes to police department policy, particularly when it comes to use of force and dealing with large demonstrations. police using tear gas and rubber bullets. protesters smashing windows. this was the scene in berkeley two months ago when a peaceful protest unraveled into a violent confrontation. berkeley resident and attorney was one of the demonstrators in the crowd that night. you can see her in this video. she says she was trying to stop another protester from breaking windows, but she believes the police response that night escalated the situation. >> my back is turnedded and an officer punched me in the back with his baton. i turned around and looked at him and i said i see you, officer number -- i'm going to report you. >> now beca
