vaughn, you understand and people you are talking to in georgia understand what mike laid out very well right, and another benefit of having an extra senate seat is the fact that it will not be an even split on the committees up on capitol hill in the senate, but instead, that the democrats, if they win this seat, they would have a plus one member on every single committee in the u.s. senate. and that's where the democrats, when you see the sort of turnout, the early voter turnout that we are seeing play out right now, it is significant, and it's encouraging for the democrats, because there's the reality that we have seen historically, as well as in this midterm, that the republican voters turn out in greater share when it comes to tuesday election day and that is the kind of turnout at the cobb county voting since sunrise, and it is the last early day of voting in the state of georgia before the candidates go out n-their all out weekend blitz before voters can show back up at their polling locations on tuesday. you guys were talking about the money game here. if you go and look at the

they went with a message that they came in on. >> nbc's vaughn hillyard. democrats now hold an outright 51-49 majority in the senate. with senator warnock's extra seat. democrats will now have a majority. vice president harris will no longer need to break ties between the parties. with the 50-50 senate the vice president broke 26 ties, the most since the 1800s. warnock's win also dilutes the power of moderate democrats like west virginia senator joe manchin, arizona senator kyrsten sinema. the pair frequently go against the party. in the previously split senate, the need for every single vote gave them enormous influence. so, elise, this meant more especially after nevada, it was great. you know, it wasn't defining. but this was needed more than one would think, given the house. >> well, and given that it wasn't going to decide who had power in the senate. those hold your nose republicans, those never trump republicans, republicans who just weren't on board with herschel walker, they didn't turn out to vote and it was the deciding factor in why warnock won

vaughn, have we heard from the former president about any of this? >> reporter: overnight we have only heard from him in the former of truth social posts. of course, that's his social media company in which he has posted multiple messaging overnight. one of them, quote, republicans and patriots must stand strong and unite against the thugs and scoundrels of the unselect committee. with darkness, comes light. of course, jose, this is a former president here who had the opportunity to comply with the subpoena from the january 6th committee. he declined to do so. that would have been his opportunity to testify under oath and provide his version of events. every step of the way, he has declined the opportunity to actually go and provide, again, under oath, his version of events. and this is a former president ever since these hearings started and the january 6th select committee began its work a year and a half ago, who was largely not denied the allegations and the evidence put forward by the committee. this is a man who the january 6th committee allege

so vaughn, let's go through the numbers here. donald trump launched his campaign. he's held zero events. his polling numbers are low, a quinnipiac poll shows his favorability 31%, and now there are four criminal referrals. what is it like inside donald trump's world right now? >> reporter: it's quiet inside of mar-a-lago, the private estate or the private golf club or the private club i should say where he has only left twice since launching that presidential bid and as you said, at no public events. for donald trump, just to give you an idea where his mind is at, he just posted in the last hour, quote, in addition to everything else our government through the fbi rigged the 2020 presidential election. so if you were looking for somebody who was potentially going to try to deny a lot of what the january 6th select committee laid out yesterday, that would suggest otherwise. this is an individual who has continued to justify his actions after the 2020 election, the lead up to january 6th and after the january 6th attack on capitol

i want to add a little bit to what vaughn said, which is so right. there was not only no systemic or planned intervention or pushback on the committee. first, donald trump said he didn't want people to participate. then when it got bad in an interview he did with me with trump, he said he wished there was some pushback and somebody on the committee. now we're going to see the beginnings this week of what the, how the republicans react. this 100-something page report is likely to focus on security at the capitol. republicans believe nancy pelosi had something to do with not bringing enough security to the capitol, which is complete nonsense, not true, and there's ample evidence it's not true. but this will continue into the next congress. in kevin mccarthy's quest to you know, become speaker, his quest to 218, he has asked the january 6th committee to preserve its records, which is nothing but a ploy because committee's preserve their record. what are they going to do? put them in a fire? of course not. they're going to have all this stuff able. it wi

nbc's vaughn hillyard is at that event.ator should be speaking at the top of the hour, good morning siobhan, thanks for being with us. talk to me about the final few days on the campaign trail. >> early voting is over, we should not. all at this point, it's all about turning out voters on tuesday, election day. you noted, the record early voter turnout yesterday. we are at a polling location in cobb county, it felt more like a tuesday, like actual election day. you saw lines of at least 75 people from sunrise, all the way to sundown, ali. and this is a moment here, where there's a reckoning in our politics, and especially here in georgia where the efforts to convince folks to vote, you know, it's a mistake to suggest that democrats want turnout for an election like this year. we saw that in january of 2021, in those runoffs that prepare the life of john are six, and raphael warnock, to those democratic u.s. senate victories. what you are seeing so far it is record turnout here for this runoff. that's where the question come

let me bring in vaughn hilliard with more on this.t's look at this event in miami here. i think it is an importance context that this is just the second time that we are aware of the former president leaving his mar-a-lago estate since announcing his 2024 presidential bid. that's more than a month now. only his second trip off the mar-a-lago campus here. and this really hits at the heart of a floundering campaign here. yet one, when you are looking at polling numbers, he still has considerable support. but there is of course the question of what comes next here. and he is building on his campaign operation, and i was just talking with an adviser yesterday who outlined that he is planning to, at the beginning of 2023, not holding his mega campaign rallies that we have become accustomed to, but instead smaller policy-focused, in their words, events, number one, these are cheaper events, to put on, and of course, you can present a script and give him some sort of direction to focus on policy. i have been to many of these events over the

. >> vaughn that donald trump is saying about this? >> reporter: donald trump is inside of his private club at mar-a-lago as we speak. we just checked his truth social account. there's nothing from him ahead of this meeting. of course, we can go back and play sound bites from donald trump talking about the audit that he would consistently say as to why he would not release his tax return. this is an individual who did not want to fully disclose what his financing, where his lending was coming from. this is somebody who, you know, "the new york times" has been on the front lines of reporting out and providing us a better understanding of exactly where and who he was financially tied to. where it lied. and of course, it was worth noting that was the family business, was found to be criminally guilty, or guilty, on criminal tax fraud charges spanning a 15-year period so for donald trump this is a financial situation in which he has largely been able to side step politically. but one that comes at a time when he's mounting his own 2024 pre
