. >> our member of the society here at mount vernon. in september 1751, george washington ordered a ship for his brother lawrence traveling to barbados. arriving on november 2. as he traveled to barbados, he kept a detailed diary, which survives in the library of congress. and partnership with the university of virginia press, a new addition will be released of this journal. readers will find it an excellent example of insight into a lost world. the mount vernon ladies association has been a leading supporter of efforts to transcribe and annotate all the papers of george washington. the opening of the library in 2013, support for more scholarship was increased around the life and legacy of george washington. this included support for the washington family papers, an effort to transcribe and annotate the papers of martha washington as well as george washington's parents, his relations, and the inheritor of mount vernon. this complete picture of the barbados dary represents the first publication in the washington family papers project. i

fire at an antique store in mount vernon. incredible video coming in, flame shooting into the night sky. jay korff just arrived at the what is the latest? jay: just an incredible scene. i will step out of the shot so our cameraman can zoom in. this is the mount vernon antique center, billed as the oldest and largest center in the entire region. right now it does not look all that much, but the first news photographer on the scene, the video that he got just as the fire came out at about 9:15 -- i think he got here about 25 minutes after, just incredible, flames shooting into the night sky on christmas night, engulfing and destroying this very large building here. here is the situation, according to the deputy fire chief, whom we spoke with moments ago, they believe the fire started on the second floor. beca integrity of the building, there was a significant collapse of the second floor, crashing onto the first floor, which is then ignited the fire even more, fueling it even more. we are told that it will take hours and hours
