what should we do about west virginia?aid that there were 250,000 people getting surplus food from the government. i received a letter the other day, april 23rd, from a.f. johnson, west virginia. here's what he gets every month from the government. i'm a man with tb and i get surplus food. i have seven children. this is what i received. five bags of flour, four cans of eggs, three five-pound bags of meal, eight pounds of shortening, four pounds of rice, which we can't use if we don't get it clean, and four powdered milk. we do not get any butter, cheese, or beans. i would challenge anybody on the surplus food situation on what we get, what we don't get. these are the powdered eggs. for a family of four, you get three of these per month. there's 250,000 people in west virginia getting this kind of assistance every month. it's an inadequate diet. there are a good many children who get their own good meals at school and they bring some of it home to share with their brothers and sisters. it's a national problem, not just a pr

this time coming in from west philadelphia. two people were hit by a car on the outskirts of the penn campus, the car collided with another car. the impact sent one vehicle into the sidewalk where the two people were. they were taken to the hospital. so were three other people in the cars. everyone is expected to survive. police say alcohol played a role in the crash. >>> police are searching right now for suspects who held up a mcdonald's at gunpoint on city avenue in the city's overbrook section. we're tracking it farther north and west this morning.ll stay dry today. 40 in allentown, down to 43 degrees for northeast philadelphia and atlantic city. both in the clear. so it's just a waiting game before we see sunshine. it will be bright to begin with. there are showers way off to the north and west. some of the clouds will be blowing into the area. nothing more then a flurry or a brief sprinkle is possible this morning. you can see the light snow showers clearing the pocono mountains right now. most of the area will stay completely dry today. but the chill will be in the air. even this afternoon, the high temperature in allentown, 50 degrees, 49 in quakertown and 39 degrees for the pocono mountains. sunshine, a few passing clouds will be blowing through on those winds, could be running 10 to 20 miles an hour. low 50s for doylestown and norristown. 53 for mount holly. heading to the shore, you'll find 50s today. sunshine, clouds, and that chilly breeze blowing. up to 53 for vineland, dover, 54 and lower 50s for west chester, drexel

and we're starting to see these developing in the west in pennsylvania and also west virginia. right now, 70 degrees,el point and 62 degrees. and that is a humid air mass outside and that is why we have the fuel for thunderstorms later today. it is breezy and the winds gusting to 30 miles an hour. all those ingredients combine means showers and thunderstorms with a cold front moving through and that is the player for this afternoon. and the evening commute, that will likely be a little unsettled outside and the temperatures continue to warm from west to east and they're warmer back to the west. and 77 in winchester and we'll hit the 80-degree mark today easily ahead of the showers and storms. you can see the doppler and we have a break in the showers and storms. but here is the front that we're tracking in. and we're seeing the showers and thundershower that are off to the west of that. and the main severe weather threat stays to the south in the carolinas and georgia. but we're still going to see showers and storms later today. and they're going to start coming into our region
