sal castanedo is monitoring the traffic. but first, let's go to kraig debro where the suspect has given police the slip. good morning, kraig. >> reporter: good morning. if you take 880 or know someone who does, you can actually look. you may not want to. it's a parking lot. originally, it was just the northbound selection. that's where the vehicle and the police stopped the suspect. this all -- this all started around 3:45 this morning, for you, anyway. we got here. for police it started at 3:30. police spotted a van at hayward and 880. they determined it was stolen. they tried to pull the driver over. the driver did not stop. eventually he made his way up to the 880 and crashed in the rail, in the middle of the highway. and then it was a waiting game. the chp was out with their guns drawn. they eventually called the s.w.a.t. team, and a negotiator came out here as well. soon they found out no one was inside of the van. but first they did try to see if there was someone inside. >> originally, chp tried to make contact with a

, what is going on sal?dge toll plaza and that's where we are starting out, we will start out east bay and we will start out northbound on 280 getting up to the 880 interchange and go to the toll plaza. you can see traffic is backed up for a 15 minute wait before you get on to the bridge which is not all that bad. we don't have any reports of problems on that upper deck. let's look at the traffic from vallejo to panel. if you are driving on highway 4 to pittsburgh and bay point, we have slow traffic and slow traffic on 238 an early crash, we may have a new crash on caster valley y. if you are driving in livermore traffic is slow coming from the pass. stop-and-go traffic and heavy traffic into the valley and also if you are driving on 880 or nearby it is slow. >>> there will be cool conditions and it will be another hot toasty day with temperatures from 90 to 100 degrees. if you get that fog you are one the first ones to get a fog bank coming back, it will be a cool day for inland areas it will be cool. proba

back over to sal. if you're heading for the bay bridge, you might want to find another way. >>> there is a crash on the bay bridge westbound incline section. two lanes blocked and now the police and the fire department are on the scene here. looks like we have at least a little bit of a backup approaching but we also do have backup at the toll plaza because what happens is, they turn the metering lights on extra slow. you're waiting there. naturally it leads to a backup at the toll plaza so again this morning you need to get on the road early if you take the bay bridge. get on the road early because there is going to be waiting involved. also we have a problem in east palo alto at the corner of bay and university right near the mcdonald's there. it's about half a block from the police station in east palo alto. it's a fatal accident at that corner and university avenue is shut down right now. you can't get off the -- you can get off the dunbarton bridge and get over to university 101. you can but you w
