reporter: she was with friends that music festival on new year's eve night on the campus of the south lake tahoe community college. south of here. the friends that she was with that night say she left that event early on new year's eve night to return to the hotel. those friends say she was spotted there by -- or was spotted that hotel by a reliable source after midnight on -- in the morning of january 1. and there has been no sign of her sense. the search was expanded today and they were looking in snow banks around the casino and areas around the music event in south lake tahoe. last cell phone activity was that music festival. but it appears they have discovered an additional signal. >> we are still analyzing that data and we don't yet know if it is a phone call or a text. takes a little bit to determine that. and we still don't know the exact location of its use. >> reporter: there were two tweets left on her account on december 31. the final one was at 3:49 p.m. where she is in this tweet, says she just lost all trust in the person she trusted most. an earlier tweet that day said after toni

here are some key locations in the south lake tahoe area - all within about a four mile radius. alyssa byrne's body was found here.along pioneer trail. it's only about a mile from lake tahoe community college.where she was attending the music festival new year's eve. byrne and some friends were staying at the horizon casino resort in stateline nevada. it appears byrne chose to walk from the music festival back to the resort.apparently several people at the festival did the same because there was a long line for the shuttle. authorities say her body was found just off this stretch of pioneer trail, between black bart avenue and al tahoe blvd. which means if she was walking back to the resort.she presumably made a wrong turn, because the resort is this way. keep in mind this area is covered with snow right now.and plows created snow banks along pioneer trail. the utility worker noticed her body over a snowbank.about 10 feet off the road. >> catherine: allyssa lived with her parents in petaluma. family members and friends have been stopping at the home throughout the day. reporters

tara moriarty has more. >> reporter: alyssa burn's friend reported her missing to south lake tahoe police they started sending out pictures of her. they gave the case to the sheriff's office in nevada which was actually across the state line. it took lake tahoe police reportedly more than a day and a half to notify nevada. we called them this morning and we are waiting to hear what they have to say about it. meantime, alyssa burns has not been seen since shortly before midnight according to friends who were with her. she was in town for a three day music festival which attracts thousands. she disappeared around 11:30 and told her friends she was taking a shuttle back to the resort. she was spotted by guests in the lobby around midnight. she worked as a hostess here in petaluma and was studying to be a paramedic firefighter at the campus. again she is described as 5- foot 3, long hair died black and a fair complexion. we'll see where all of this stands right now with the investigation. live in petaluma, ktvu channel 2 morning news. >>> a court arrangement is set for today accused of hittin
