for an explanation, let's talk to meteorologist doug kammerer. >> ws last night at 11:00 and even on my facebook page we talked about it the last couple days. the clipper system that moves into our region if it was by itself we would have gotten a nice 2 to 4 inches maybe 3 to 5. we predicted 1 to 3 and this is what happens. that clipper system moves our way but as it moves our way it develops another system just off the coast here. so that other system will become an area of low pressure and that's the same storm that's going to hammer parts of the northeast. but for us it takes all of the moisture and just moves it right out to the coast essentially robbing us from data. as the clipper dies quickly, the coastal storm developed and we are literally robbed of any good snows. that's what's going on now. now we have to wait for the second system to develop to see if we get any banding on the backside. not everybody's going to see it tonight. >> that is always hard to kind of figure out those bands around the areas of low pressure more moderate snows start setting up. 28 by morning, 29

let's get the latest from doug kammerer who is tracking it. >> we've seen the snow come in and move out of the region as we moved over the last couple of hours here. the biggest thing we've seen is we're going to continue to watch as temperatures dip below freezing. yes, that will be an issue re-freezing on the roads. look at the storm team 4 radar. notice this is over the last five hours from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. this was it. we told you this would be a short duration event with the heaviest snow between 11:00 and 2:00. that's exactly what we saw across the area. but down to the south and east no snow. this was all rain around waldorf and lenonardleonardstown. that system is moving out and we have nothing on the radar. the radar is now clear. some areas did pick up some pretty good amounts as far as snowfall goes. damascus about 3.5, now up to 3.8 in that area. hughesville, virginia 2.8, greenbelt, maryland about 0.5, about the same as the airport picked up. i'm watching not just one but two storms. we are talking snow with both of them one could be a little bigger. we'll talk mohr

well meteorologist doug kammerer nailed it from storm center 4. just as you ordered it up. >> we were talking about areas north and west of i-95 not really seeing anything at all. this would mostly be a southern maryland system. that's exactly what we had here. but we had an inch toward culpeper and towards la ray issues this morning with a little bit of a snow burst that developed right during the early morning hours. we'll take a look go back 12 hours. you can see what i'm talking about. most of the snow down here but look at the snow burst around culpeper and warrenton. it quickly fizzled out toward our areas. upwards of 1 to 2 inches south and east and through southern maryland. right now nothing on the radar, the storm is out of here. behind it just like always we've got the colder air. look at the windchills down to 21 in gaithersburg 26 in d.c. 23 in manassas more cold air over the next couple of days. we will moderate some towards the weekend, but now we're watching another storm that will affect the weekend. i've got that for you in a min
