jillian mele just gave us that update as well. now icy roads did lead to a number of accidents and two major pile-ups across top region on sunday. three people died dozens were hospitalized. two people were killed in a crash on i-476 near markel road and the blue route. and the schuylkill expressway 60-car pileup killed one person. >>> this was the scene of the mess in montgomery county on 76. a philadelphia man was killed in that crash. he was having car trouble on 76 westbound. when he got out of his vehicle he was hit by another car. and that's what caused the chain reaction crash. 30 people injured. and 76 was shut down for several hours in both directions. >>> and here's video of that pileup on the blue route in delaware county. nearly a dozen cars involved in this one. two people killed. thomas michael brennan of landsdale and jason anderson of dover were killed when a tractor-trailer jackknifed on the icy roads. they were in several cars pinned underneath the big rig there. >> you just don't know what is going to happen in

first alert traffic reporter jillian mele is standing by with your wednesday morning commute. good morning jillian. >> good morning, bill. skyforce10 live over the scene of this accident on 95 the northbound side right at girard avenue. and you can see right here we have a tow truck on scene, multiple vehicles involved in this, at least four or three vehicles, it's looking like. two vehicles here blocking the two left lanes. so, we have the right lane of traffic getting by. a couple times already we did have all lanes temporarily blocked, but you can see that one lane freely moving the far right lane. this is causing a heavy delay, though, on 95 northbound basically from the vine street expressway out to girard avenue. let's go ahead and go back to the maps and you can see the delay. drivers just sitting there on the highway. this is what it's looking like barely moving as you approach that scene. and checking some of your drive times on 95 we are seeing normal volume southbound building and then on the northbound side, especially you can see your drive time is 25 minutes right

but right now we'll check in with first alert traffic reporter jillian mele. good morning jillian. >>> starting off in center city philadelphia, the vine street expressway is looking good in both directions. this is 676 near 95. make sure to slow it down and use caution. watch out for icy patches and slippery conditions this morning. and in claymont an accident on philadelphia pike blocked between harvey road and 495. take marsh road as your alternate. the bridge surfaces can get slippery very quickly. the drpa issued speed restrictions on area bridges. 35 miles per hour is what we are seeing on the ben franklin bridge and betsy ross. 25 on the walt whitman bridge. the 25 miles per hour on the commodore barry bridge. >>> thank you. now our photographers found several slick spots overnight. and then this accident as well on vine street in center city. the accident happened around 1:00 this morning. luckily, no one was hurt. also in the home circle section of philadelphia crews loaded up to start laying salt down. the ice threat has prompted a handful of closings

let's check in with traffic reporter jillian mele. >> good morning, bill. a much different scene than this time yesterday. this is a live look in northeast philadelphia. torresdale at cottman avenue. the roads are dry. not dealing with any slippery or slushy conditions out there. it is a good start. we are not reporting major stents on the highway. this is in center city the vine street expressway westbound as drivers would head out to 76 very quiet on the vine. 76 is clear. a live look near montgomery drive. see just a few people out there right now. chris? >> all right. let's get to that breaking news in montgomery county where an early morning apartment fire forced people out into the cold. some people had to jump from their balconies to escape the flames. firefighters raced to the rescue. this broke out around 1:00 a.m. a at an apartment tower in south bethlehem pike in whitemarsh. we're told three people had minor injuries and some kids had to jump from a balcony on the fifth or sixth floor to escape the fire. we don't know if they're the ones injured.

jillian mele is watching the snow on the traffic cameras this morning from the first alert traffic center. good morning, jillian. >> good morning to you, bill. let's start you off in delaware with live look in townsend. route 13 at pine tree road. slow down and take your time. we know this has started and drivers in new jersey 206 is closed as a result of an accident between 95 and carter road. stick to princeton pike as your alternate there. southbound into center city philadelphia. drive time is pretty average 12 to 14 minutes both ways between wood haven and the vine. no significant slow downs to report just yet. that is going to change and this could likely change as well throughout the morning. right now we're noting any delays right now at mass transit, but this is something i'll keep a close eye once that snowfall starts to move if those slippery rails create any slow down. vai? >>> penndot is ready for the snow. spread salt brine on highways and heavily traveled roads. penndot has more than 200 trucks that are ready to spread and they will stay out there until the snow stops. we c

let's check in with jillian mele. jillian doesn't take a lot to slow things down on the roads. >> we'll enjoy the dry roads while we have them because that is certainly not case as the morning goes on. this is what we're dealing with 95 right at girard avenue. that's the southbound side. we're starting to see some congestion out there, but no delays and no accidents to report so far on 95. we had a water main break in west conshohocken. that has since cleared and you're good to go there at this point. heading to lawrence township this accident still out there. route 206 still remains closed between 95 and carter road. an accident involving a vehicle that went into a pole. we have downed pole at the scene. a lot of repair work needs to be done in order to get the road reopened. if you're taking mass transit so far everything is on close to schedule schedule. we'll keep you updated. tracy? >>> 5:33. let's talk about the roads. pent penndot has a plan. and right now hundreds of trucks are loaded with salt and that will be
