i'm here at san jose state in downtown san jose where the scooters are extremely popular. o far, complaints are few. but the city is nonethelessin the process of formulating a scooter policy. introduced here in downtown san jose little more than a month ago electric scooters now seem to be everywhere. so far, two companies, lime and bird, are renting scooters here. san jose police say they have received just one complaint so far but city hall is watching says the department oftransportation's colin heyne.colin heyne/city of san jose ".....we've had a lot of curiosity about the scooters, we've seen scooters left blocking the public right of way and there are questions about safety..." through a smart phone app, users can check out a scooter from several location, use it for a short scoot around town, and then leave for the next user to find. for now, the city is deferring to state law, which says riders must have a driver's license, wear a helmet and stay off the sidewalk. obviously, that's not happening. a news conference later today by police about an officer involved shooting yesterday in downtown san jose. it happened at about 7 am near east william and south ninth street. that is not far from san jose state university. the officers fired shots at an armed home invasion suspect and then arrested him. he was not hit by the gunfire. no officers were hurt during the confrontation. the officer involved shooting followed two other shootings in san jose. the first was in a parking lot shortly after midnight. police say they found a man lying under a car. he had been shot at least once. he was pronounced dead at the scene. a few hours later there was a second shooting at loves in jackson avenue is not far from the first shooting. police detained several people. they recovered a gun as well. the victim in that shooting is in stable condition. it is still not clear if the shootings are related. >>> several victims and their family members of the golden state killer traveled to nashville to attend a crime convention. >> allie tells us this was planned before last months arrest of the suspect. >>

downtown san jose resident says the sound of banging on his windows and doors signaled trouble. >> i found a fire outside the house right here. >> reporter: someone had set fire to a dumpster, which spread to a nearby garbage can and then the side of the alpha phi alpha fraternity house. >> it's a shame. you could hurt someone or killed someone. >> reporter: the fire at 400 south 7th street was the last in a string of ten small blazes in downtown san jose over an hour. flames first erupted around 5:20 a.m. on south 10th street near the i-280 entrance ramp. a garbage can was burned along with a side of a palm tree but there were no injuries. then the next nine incidents all spaced a few blocks and minutes apart from the freeway north to the college campus area and back again in a serpentine pattern. the garbage dumpster outside a sorority house marked the halfway point in what may be a crime spree. >> only way i knew there was a fire was when i went to dump something. i could smell it. >> reporter: san jose fire arson investigators were checking out each scene but so far no conclusion

at roosevelt park near downtown san jose. this march to city hall began about 15 minutes ago. these may day marches not only around the bay area, but across the country. >>> a police officer is off the job tonight. morgan hill police say he accidentally fired his gun and injured a 16-year-old girl. it happened sunday night after a chase. we're told the 16-year-old boy was on a joyride in a stolen van with two teenage girls in the car. eventually, the officer used a pit maneuver to stop the van. the two teen girls started walking towards officers. that's when one of the veteran officers accidentally fired his gun toward the ground. a fragment hit one girl in the eye. the teenager was treated at the hospital and is recovering at home. >>> a final blow for judge perski. this time from the state supreme court. you might recall he sentenced brock turner to six months in jail for sexual assault a couple years ago. many people thought that sentence was too lenient. organizers gathered enough signatures to put a measure on the ballot

officially approved the extension into downtown san jose. but now there is a lawsuit already. the owner of the san jose sharks says the project adequately address parking near the s.a.p. center. as chris wynn explains, this lawsuit could potentially delay the project. >> reporter: as the sharks continue the hunt for the stanley cup, the parent company sharks sports and entertainment is now involved in a different fight. a new lawsuit against the vta funding the construction and operation of the bart extension in san jose. sse says it supports the project but doesn't think the current plan addresses issues surrounding the arena including a promise to ensure acted parking and safe a and accessible environment for visitor during construction. the coprept john tor tors says we have been pushing for vta to work with us without success we didn't take the decision lightly. the vta told us it wouldn't comment on pending litigation. but the san jose downtown association says the lawsuit and push to preserving parking makes sense. >> this is the one of the high et performing sports and
