i'm laura garcia. let's talk about the cooldown, kari. >>> it's been so nice to have the cooler weather around the bay area but also the air quality the other issue at times. it is looking very hazy and it's not all that healthy to breathe it in. especially in the north bay we're still seeing a lot of the unhealthy air quality in the air. for the rest of the bay area it's been decreasing as well. the spare the air alert has been extended as our temperatures remain comfortable. still not safe for a lot of people to open up the windows and let cooler temperatures in. i'll be monitoring this. we'll talk about what's ahead in the weekend forecast coming up. how is it looking for the early morning commute? >>> kari, the commute volume is light. we've had a couple areas that are unusually slow. it should be changing. look at the map, the first spot is hayward over on the right side of the screen. you see the icon as you're approaching 92, that's industrial boulevard. a crash and then a traffic break. cleared

kris sanch washington. >>> it's good to have you, kris, and i'm laura garcia. you in just a little bit. let's get to the forecast with meteorologist kari hall. what are we in store for today? >>> we're starting out with you can see the low clouds rolling by but also some clearing in the south bay. we've seen some matches of fog and it's also a nice, chilly start around the bay area with higher humidity and a light wind. as we go from the morning into the afternoon we're going to see it warming up once again with sunshine but we're monitoring that air quality with some of our inland spots heading back into the 90s today. we'll talk about this and what's ahead, the big cooldown by the end of the week and possibly some rain. mike, how is it looking for the commute? >>> overall, kari, not bad. the fog we watched on the golden gate bridge and north of there. i'm concerned about a crash. let's get the numbers as we look at the map talking about four vehicles, two separate crashes, southbound 880 approaching tennyson heading south down through hayward. that will cause

i'm laura garcia. >> and i'm marcus washington. the third hour of "today in the bay" continues right now. mike keeping track of the commute. first the forecast for you with meteorologist kari hall with that terrific tuesday forecast. let's hear if it's going to be a terrific forecast for us. >>> it's going to be pretty nice, but very warm in the inland valleys as our temperatures heat up into the upper 80s today and we're also going to have that high fire danger for the north bay. we're continuing to monitor that as well as what's going to happen the next few days with a few more bursts of high winds that could affect more of the rest of the bay area. today we're up to 85 in san jose. 86 in martinez and san francisco will reach 70 degrees. we're going to once again have some warm weather but a cooldown in the forecast and i'll have more on that in a few minimum. heading over to you, mike, how is it looking for the commute? >>> well, kari, not as bad as we sometimes see on a tuesday. and by bad i'm talking about the backup at the ba

i'm laura garcia. all right. well, will it cool off enough for the leg warmers? that's the true question. will it ever again, kari hall? >>> yeah, we've had some cool mornings around the bay area, but still some gusty winds making it feel even more chilly as you get started out the door, and that's the reason we do still have the red flag warning continuing for today. in the north and east bay hills, warm temperatures this afternoon, warmer than where we should be. at least we do have calmer weather by the end of the week as we check out our high temperatures this is what you can expect a high of 75 in palo alto and oakland. san francisco will reach 72. a high of 72 today in santa rosa. we'll talk more about the fire danger coming up. mike, how is it looking now for the commute? >>> actually, kari, we have a very smooth commute but there is an issue that just came in through the newsroom if you're just joining us. let's take you out to the maps where the speed sensors are looking great right now. no major problems. we do have the bay bridge metering lights on but

i'm laura garcia. >> i'm kris sanchez in for marcus washington.the bridges and the video just bouncing around, mike, so clear clearly you'll tell us how long this danger will last. >>> yeah, this is going to last throughout much of the morning and possibly into the afternoon for some of us. we still have the high fire danger that will continue but the wind advisory will expire at 11:00 this morning. we will stay breezy especially in the north bay for the rest of today. then as we go through the forecast we are going to see those temperatures around the bay area reaching mostly into the 70s, even in san francisco we're up to 73 degrees for this afternoon. we'll talk more about what's ahead and how much of those high wind we measure already. mike, how is it looking for the morning commutes? >>> the good news is we have one incident, one traffic incident to note in the tri-valley, highway 84, tied up for about 45 minutes now. a crash over on the shoulder actually in the ditch right by the ge plant slows you down heading to 680 out of town, pleasanton

i'm laura garcia. because of this red flag warning. >> didn't need the alarm to go off this morning because we could hear the wind overnight and already seeing some vegetation fires out there. >> yeah, unfortunately that's what we were expecting with this. now that high fire danger will continue throughout. much of the morning as we're still looking at some gusty winds. that wind advisory will expire at 11:00. we're looking at the highest wind gusts mostly throughout this morning. what we already measured so far, mt. st. helena has winds up to 89 miles per hour. a little bit more breezy elsewhere. we're going to continue to watch those numbers, bring you the latest updates all throughout the morning as we head over to you, mike, how is this impacting the morning drive? >> first of all, a lot of entries but a lot of them are because of that wind. wind advisories. for the bridges across the water, the bridges tend to get gusty winds overnight. it's not prevalent for most of the areas. earlier today, we d

i'm marcus washington. >> and i'm laura garcia. we'll check in with mike in just moments.is in for kari and red flag warning still in effect. >> it is. and, you know, we've already seen gusty winds, peak winds at the mt. diablo range area. 60 plus miles per hour. so, if you're thinking to yourself it doesn't really feel windy out here for today, well, it's because if you're at a lower elevation, you're not really going to see the effects of that wind. it is the higher elevation areas with all the dry brush that we've seen quickly can spread with just one fire that we're really concerned about. these are your headlines for today. we're talking about mountain wind gusts and northeast winds 30, 40, now 60-mile-per-hour and that dry air is going to mean low mewmidity and talking about warm temperatures with the heat advisory also in effect through tomorrow at 9:00 p.m. that kicks in at 11:00 a.m. today because we're really quick to warm up. right around your lunch hour we'll see some 90s for the interior valleys. mike. >> vianey, we have a back up at the bay bridge. we know ab

i'm laura garcia. >> i'm marcus washington. getting you start would the day. mike, keeping an eye on that commute and, first, let's start off with that forecast. meteorologist kari hall still working for us. still dark out there, but how is it looking for us now? >> it is going to be a cooler day and i'm so looking forward to not having to run the air conditioning as much as we see our highs coming down to the low 80s. for some of our warmest spots and it will continue into the weekend. but as we make it towards that cooler weather, it's going to be quite gusty and that, of course, increases our fire danger especially in the hills. today our high temperature in san francisco will reach 72 and 85 in napa and 80 in martinez and we'll see mid 80s, as well, for parts of the south bay. we'll talk more about this coming up. mike, how is it looking right now for the morning commute? >> we have a few slow spots, kari. i'll talk about both sides of the bay. but, first, i want to show you crossing the bay at the bay bridge toll plaza. no metering lights yet. we're holdi

i'm laura garcia. >> and i'm kris sanchez in for marcus washington. we have to get right to that forecast because it is dangerous heat that could be some fire danger, kari. >>> our winds picking up today. if you're about to head out the door, get ready for the morning and maybe you're heading to the b.a.r.t. station, in the low 60s. we reach into the mid-80s already by noon. we know it's going to be a hot day as we plan for that red flag warning. any fires that spark could spread quickly. make sure you're always aware of what's going on. we'll talk more about this as well as what's ahead for the weekend. mike, how is it looking for the commute? >>> not bad, kari. there is still something going on i thought would clear by now. the silicon valley map that we typically show, scattered incidents there. the only one we're worried about is north 101 at the lawrence off ramp. still closed from the northbound side. continue north to fair oaks and that will be your option. you have to head back and loop back up. everything else moves very nicely. back to you.
