san jose mayor matt mehan joins us live this morning.d morning to you, mayor. >> good morning andre. thanks for having me. >> all right. mayor. so let's start with the big vta strike happening right now. 100,000 riders impacted by this. this negotiation has been going on since august. are you involved in this at all? and what are your thoughts on what's happening right now? >> well, it's devastating as somebody who grew up relying on public transit, i took public busses to high school every day. and in my early adulthood, just getting to work. and i know how important it is for members of our community. this is a devastating turn of events. they've been negotiating for months, as you said, and they're just still too far apart. i do sit on the vta board, and my sincere hope is that the union atu will come back to the table. they're asking for over 19% over three years, which really isn't feasible. we've actually seen sales tax revenue decline this year. it's projected to increase only modestly over the next three years, which would be the
