new developments in the college admissions scandal. a stanford student has been expelled. >> abc 7 news reporter amy hollyfield live at stanford with what led to the university's decision. amy? >> reporter: jessica, the university says the student faked her sailing credentials when she applied in late 2016. the university has confirmed some of the material in her application is false and that a $500,000 contribution was made to the sailing program several months after she was admitted. the sailing coach has been fired from stanford. he pleaded guilty in the scandal to one count of racketeering. stanford said in a statement that this female student is no longer on campus and that any credits earned have been vacated. since she applied in late 2016 that puts her at her second year here, a sophomore. now starting all over again as the fallout from operation varsity blues continues. reporting live from stanford, amy hollyfield, abc 7 news. >> amy, thank you. much more on the college admissions scandal on our website. right now you can read about the bay area parents facing charges. j

abc news learned that two weeks ago, a tense oceeeting ended with the president ordering nielsen and secretary of state mike pompeo to shut down a portion of the border, but was dissuaded by aides at the last minute. according to "the new york times," the push for hardline immigration policy is coming from one of the president's closest advisers on the issue, steven miller. they're also urging trump to revisit the idea of family separation. "the times" reports the new binary choice policy would force migrants to choose between, quote, voluntarily allowing their children to be separated from them, or to waive their child's humanitarian protections so the family can be detained together. and today, kenneth, besides the internal pushback, trump's policies have also been challenged by the two other branches of government. last month, congress passed a bipartisan bill blocking the president's declaration of a national emergency at the border and just yesterday, a judge blocked the administration's efforts to force migrants to wait in mexico while their cases are being processed. janai, ke
