joining me now, my friend ayman mohyeldin. it is great to see you. >> thank you for having me. >> the devil is in the details here. is there anything else more that we can say? do we know anything else about this plan that secretary blinken alluded to in. >> i think we have a little more clarity on what is happening behind the scenes on the diplomatic front. i think it's safe to say and i've been speaking to a lot of sources across the region today. there are two tracks that are emerging simultaneously on the diplomatic front. one has to deal with the hostages. that is being coordinated mostly out of doha. a qatar, u.s., israeli negotiation with hamas. not directly but through all the parties. the second one is the humanitarian one. that involves the gulf countries, saudi arabia and the united arab emirates and egypt with the united states and israel on how to get those supplies. so those are happening simultaneously. there are serious obstacles to the humanitarian effort about why egypt is not yet able to go ahead and deliver

joining me now is ayman mohyeldin, that we have "ayman" on msnbc.extensively covered -- and ayman mohyeldin, it's great to talk to you. i wanted to since this war began. the idea of defeating hamas, it seems that once quite obvious and yet unbelievably elusive. because at this point, hamas seems to be as much of an organization that citizen ideology. and one that will, apparently, if you believe the new york times claim victory no matter what. do you think it is a goal that can really realistically be approached? >> i think if the goal is to destroy the organization itself, there are certainly tactical ways that israel has tried to do that in the past, and history is the best lesson here. because if you look at what israel has done repeatedly since 2016, and before that, it has gone after hamas very aggressively and we should be very clear about that because israeli military officials, certainly retired one, have been clear about that. they killed the spiritual leader of hamas, they've killed political figures within hamas, they've killed senior mil

i am ayman mohyeldin. let's get started. ♪ ♪ ♪ we start with news overseas.breaking developments in the israel-hamas war. these really military has expects early officially extended its grant operations in the gaza strip. right now, tanks and infantry are operating inside, after being sent inside the territory late last night. in doing so, the israeli military has now said it has moved into another stage of its war. the video you see now was released by the israeli military, and nbc news cannot independently verify it. israel has also escalated its bombing campaign, with airstrikes underway as we speak. the bombardment has been nonstop, according to nbc news reporters on the ground. the israeli military has also said its fighter jets struck a number of military targets belong to hezbollah -- lebanon, and that is in response to rocket and missile fire coming from the northern border. we should make clear, this escalation does not represent the ground invasion that has been widely discussed and sought. but an expansion of ground operations. prime minister benja

>> well, ayman mohyeldin, the single biggest moment happen this morning, when speaker mccarthy came out of his house republican conference meeting and announced a stunning turnaround after weeks, and really months, of catering to his right-wing hard-liners and refusing to work with democrats in a bipartisan bill and trying to do it with simply republican bills. he announced it was -- something he had not done in those last few weeks or months, which is put a bill on the floor and orlando mcgrath to get it over the line. he blamed those 21 republican hard-liners who tanked his republican continuing resolution yesterday, and -- spending cuts and immigration and border provisions that many of them wanted, but -- short term bill under any circumstances. so, he said this left him with no other options. and he did this in the face of threats by hard-liners, most notably matt gaetz, who had been explicitly saying that, if mccarthy passes a short term bill with democratic votes, he would move to overthrow him. matt gaetz has not done that. yet but even mccarthy did exactly what matt gaetz had w

. >> joining me now is ayman mohyeldin, host of course of ayman on msnbc.ho has covered the region extensively. amen, it's really hard. it's hard for us to hear those messages. it's unfathomable to imagine what the folks who are being asked to leave their homes in gaza are going through. hamas has been very clear, do not leave. this is psychological warfare on the part of israel, as telling you to leave. how meaningful is that message from hamas to the people of gaza? >> i think it's very meaningful, for two reasons, what josh was saying, i think there's a tactical aspect to it. and i think there's a principled aspect to it. i would be very susceptible -- very suspicious, if you will, of just simply saying hamas doesn't want them to leave without trying to understand a deeper psychology of palestinian trauma. as josh was saying, how palestinians have fled their homes, as a result of war in 1948, in 1967. 60 to 70% of the people living in gaza are refugees, or descendants of refugees. so the idea of leaving your home is deeply embedded in palestinian trauma.

and we now is the host of ayman, ayman mohyeldin. ou have extensive history reporting on this. what are you watching for in terms of what is next? we know that there are hostages. the president confirming entire families right now in gaza with israel going to lay mount some counteroffensive. >> i'm watching both short term and long term responses from the israelis. i think the short term response than i am tracking is israel's ability to assess what has happened on the ground. meaning to get a very clear picture of how many israelis are missing. how many israelis have been killed. we are getting these updates in realtime. the importance of the missing israelis, the captive israelis inside gaza, that is because it is going to determine the pace of the israeli response. if you're talking about dozens of israelis inside gaza, knowing where they are, knowing where they are being held by the various militant groups that may have captured them, that is going to determine to what extent is your response. you have seen in the past israel go t

joining me now from tel aviv is nbc foreign correspondent josh lederman, also joining me, ayman mohyeldinman on msnbc. give us the latest on the humanitarian situation in gaza and the preparations for what does seem likely to be a ground war there. >> reporter: this is a moment where we are really seeing two conflicting impulses and moves in this conflict. because at the same time that we're seeing some of the strongest signs from israel that that ground incursion could be imminent, we're also seeing glimmers of hope that there could be at least some temporary improvement in terms of getting that humanitarian aid. just as today we saw, as you mentioned, the defense minister meeting with israeli troops on the border telling them you're going to see gaza soon from the inside, we saw prime minister netanyahu, who also went down to the border with gaza to really kind of rile up the troops and give them a pep talk. he asked them, are you ready to go in? they replied very enthusiastically, we're ready. we're going to be victorious. israel has been amassing troops even in the last 24 hours, read
