nbc bay area's kris sanchez joins us now with what that all means for us in the bay area. >> reporter: you don't have to wear a mask if you are fully vaccinated but you might want to. right now 83% of u.s. cases are of the delta variant. a big spike from 50% of all cases the week of july 3rd. in california nearly half of all new cases are now of the delta variant, which experts say is highly contagious. for that reason, 17 california counties are now recommending that even fully vaccinated people wear masks when we are inside public places. that far includes all bay area counties except for solano. right now only los angeles county is mandating a return to masks indoors. the bay area would be solidly in the red and most restrictive purple tiers based on new case numbers and hospitalizations. the cdc continues to urge people to get vaccinated as all of the authorized vaccines do provide protection against the delta variant and because most covid cases are among people who are unvaccinated. >> right now concerns are growing about breakthrough cases of covid-19. an aid to house speaker n

inland east bay is top line. north bay valleys are middle line. can see how you will cool to the lower 80s. how does the drive look? >>> we've got brake lights as we work west bound. a live look at the dublin interchange, extra volume towards the 580, 680 connector. east of there is where we are seeing the bulk of the stop and go conditions for the morning ride. as we look at our maps, extra volume and slow speeds west bound out of tracy into the altamont pass area. travel time, 39 minutes 205 towards 680. the ride towards the dublin interchange is a busy one. chp working on a trouble spot. it's in the clearing stages so that's good news. activity and brake lights north bound 101, not far from hills dale. they have the right lane blocked but it looks like they're getting everything to the shoulder. if you want to skip the brake lights use 280 or el camino as an alternate. things are looking better in the area. we are starting to see traffic build for the ride out of gilroy. a heads up if you are headed into the south bay. once you pass that look a

a little more as a 100 half moon bay half moon bay is 86 degrees. so it still still pretty hot out there. just a warm-up act. their faith for the for tomorrow. >> to the east bay. now that contra costa water district asking customers to cut their water use by 10%. contra. costa county is classified under exceptional drought. the county's primary source of water is from the delta which is fed by rivers from up in the sierra. but this year most of the water from the snow. melt was absorbed by the dry ground and that is prompting the district's board of directors to declare a stage. one water shortage. but they have some tips to conserve water and here they are. >> add molt into our our gardens or into or any landscape, though, have outside of mult is a great way to retain moisture within the soil. and so you don't have to water as often and then indoors. people can take a look at that and have your fixtures tech and make sure that you don't have a leak in a toilet or in a fossett little little things like that. save a lot of water. >> yeah. believe it

south bay as i speak. let's take a look at this imminent fire danger warning it is for elevations above 2000 feet north bay mountains, east bay, hills and diablo range but areas excluded include the immediate coastline of the bay area and the east bay shoreline and that is thanks to the marine layer giving us some much needed moisture. we can track that fog bank out there right now with our south of market camera in downtown san francisco in radar for tracking that monsoonal moisture into monterey county and central california as it inches closer towards the bay area. now the good news is so far no lightning has been detected tonight. but like i said with that daytime heating, we're going to notice the biggest threat of any dry lightning with the pop-up thunderscorms, too. for monday morning through early monday afternoon. and here's a clear example of that by monday mid morning, we could see some light showers from those thunderstorms that may form over the east bay hills and diablo range. so just keep th
