let's go to bernadette woods, she has more on the dangerous storms and she's been gathering more information. bernadette. >> that's right they're still assessing the damages. you can tell it is incredibly widespread across a lot of the state. time to go out to each one of these areas, see what happens, and come up with their assessment. what they have at this point 10 confirmed tornadoes. this may still go up and some of them already have a rating scale with them. this is a damage scale. so we're seeing ef1 and ef1 also watersville county. that's a new one from yesterday. in addition to that we also have mount erie ef0 and that's an addition. now as far as the damage scale goes, we talk about this enhanced fujita scale. it goes out and assessing what happens and from there they estimate what the winds may have been. and since yesterday, we were talking about it being an ef0 level, 55 to 65 miles per hour. there's staggering numbers out there. clarksburg over 2-inches of rain and laurel 1-1/2 inch of rain. some thunderstorms are developing out of those clouds. let's show you doppler radar bec

tonight, meteorologist bernadette woods is closely tracking another developing storms. but first, let's begin with the latest on the power outages. this is just awful timing considering it's such a hot weekend. >> reporter: very bad timing indeed. just by driving around the county, it's very easy to see just how much damage this storm caused. right now we're in woodlawn and there are trees down all across this neighborhood. around 500,000 customers lost service last night and they say it's going to be a while before service is restored. a massive cleanup is underway in baltimore county after heavy winds and rain pounded neighborhoods across the region. >> a lot of winds, a lot of trees falling. very scary. >> reporter: in woodlawn, hurricanelike winds took out power lines and trees that in turn crushed whatever was in their path. >> the crash was just like a boom, just like something fell out of the sky really. >> reporter: this is what rene heard. somewhere underneath this giant tree are the remains of her neighbor's house. falling limbs split in two, trapping the owne

bernadette woods is live in the first warning weather center with more on what we can expect today. >> good afternoon. we're going to start out with the fact that we still have a heat advisory hanging on for parts of the eastern shore. the thing is, that's only part of this story. let's get to that graphic. heat advisory in effect. temperature wise, it's warm out there. we didn't drop below 80 over night. 90s across the south. when you factor in the high humidity it feels like 93 in baltimore, 103 in easton. through this afternoon a cold front comes our way. that's where our focus is going to shift. the chance of severe weather this afternoon. there have been a couple of showers across the state so far today. nothing major. was ae as we led -- as we head through the afternoon there's that chance for severe weather. if any watches or warnings come out we will pass those along to you. a full forecast is coming up. >>> a reminder from baltimore public works, swimming is banned at all of the city reservoirs. the waters can be tempting but they are not safe for swimming. swimming is also b

. >> our first warning coverage continues with bernadette woods. she has the storm on live doppler weather radar. good afternoon, bern that death. >> good afternoon, don. we will talk about this. it's not really going anywhere. it's spinning offshore. you can see the heaviest of the rain is making its way farther north. notice the bands continuing to filter in. they shut off right about here. that is because the radar doesn't go out over the open waters. there is more where that came from. the latest, hanging on to tropical storm status. winds have come down to about 40 miles per hour and barely moving, off to the east at 3 miles per hour. when it crosses land it will become a tropical depression. when it heads back out over the water, this thing will start to turn again. we are not completely out of the woods from the storm yet. take a look at the forecast models. still dissension. the majority take them off to the east, over the open waters but keep them south of us. this is something that we will continue to track and we will keep you updated. >

for the latest, let's go to meteorologist bernadette woods. i have seen some incredible pictures of flooding on social media. >> >> reporter: it's a mess down there. first warning doppler radar tuned into florida to show you how much rain is covering the state. when i put it in motion, more bands continue to come in from the gulf and make your way across the states. it's not as heavy in tampa as it was earlier. that has shifted into orlando. there is more that will follow. let's switch it over and show you. here is what is tropical storm debby, winds 60-miles an hour. it is nearly stationary. there is no movement at this point. overtime, it is expected to slowly drift off to the north. the last couple of updates continue to take this track off to the east more and more. recordless. it's already pounding florida with a lot of rain and winds and tornadoes. many reports over 50 reports of tornadoes alone in florida and that will continue as long as this storm is around. the tracks are all over the place for the forecast. >>> it sounds like they w

bernadette woods and bob turk are tracking showers.we will start with bob. >> not a lot around here. a few showers across west virginia. one decent shower across southern maryland. not much in the north. there's one across cal burn county. we've been tracking it. that moving -- that system is moving off to the east. it will probably be moving across the bay shortly. around the baltimore region, not much to talk about. temperature wise we warmed up to 77. our normal high is 80. only 60 ocean city and 62 in oakland. we've seen a lot of rain lately. bernadette has a look at the updated rainfall numbers, which may surprise some people. >> that's the thing. this is a long ongoing event, not just what we've seen recently and these numbers were taken at bwi marshall not necessarily in your backyard. now, officially where we keep our records for the month, it's a young month, we're an inch above. for the year when you bring all of that together that does factor into a dry march and april, we are still down over 5 inches in the rainfall deficit

our first warning weather continues with bernadette woods. bern? >> it has not moved much, but the 5:00 update is in, and this is what we have going on. all the bands of heavy rain coming up from the gulf, and with little movement expected over the next couple of days, this pattern will continue, and there may be breaks in the action, but you'll continue to see another ban after that, and not only with the potential for flooding but tornadoes. when you have a tropical system connecting with land, it can spin something up, and the statistics are like this, winds 45 miles per hour and moving northeast at five miles per hour and barely moving at all. the forecast track at this point takes it across florida but back over the open waters of the atlantic, and that's interesting. it will weaken over land, but this is a very large-sized storm, and tell maintain some connection with the water and get back over the open water, and it may gain strength. but this is not by any means finished. we will keep you updated. back inside. >> bernadette, thank you. sta

we'll go to meteorologist bernadette woods on the phone. did you see the video we ran of the flooding? >> reporter: i did. it's pretty intense. >> right to what you were talking about earlier. >> reporter: it was and look how much rain was coming out. also the last couple weeks we have gotten a lot of rain in those quarters. we haven't gotten official at the airport. but if you live in those zones you know earl county, frederick county, parts of montgomery have gotten a lot of rain. as these two strong heavy thunderstorms on top of it with downpours, couple inches quickly, the ground cannot handle that. that's why you see these images of it washing over the road way. we saw earlier how it was coming around. it is so important, it is not worth going through it let alone putting your life at risk. your car will stall out, you will encounter damage and you will not get across anyway. >> eyewitness news did a story about this type of flash flooding in montgomery county last year or year before and people were in their cars. it was incredibly da

bernadette woods is live with an updated look at first warning live doppler radar. also the latest on a hurricane causing havoc in florida. >> it certainly is. we're going to show you some thunderstorms that just popped up to the west of annapolis. those are moving east ward so we do expect to see a few more as we head through the evening hours. then things can continue tomorrow. so what we're going to do is track them as they move to the south. five to 6-inches of rain in some of these heavy bands making their way continuously into the peninsula of florida. this tropical storm isn't going any where. it is gaining some strength, and you notice the track has changed considerably. at this point the national hurricane center is taking the storm off to the north. this track keeps moving off to the east and that could still happen. you can see as far as our forecast model goes, the trend is more toward the east. regardless there's already a lot of rain, already a lot of tornadoes reported and we have a lot to come. >> bernadette, thank you. stay with wjz for first warn c

on the phone we have bernadette woods following the storms from her home and has her point of view. rnadette. >> well, denise, as you guys have been saying and everyone has been saying this is a wild day and the latest of a possible touchdown in bellair, we have details. the national weather service will head out tomorrow. they will go to investigate determining if it is wind damage or a tornado, regardless there's damage and a lot of people in bellair reporting damage to their homes. on facebook people are saying that they were buying a car and during that time they are locked up and because of the storm which was so wild. a lot of people being affected, from one side of the state to the other. we still have that site of severe weather for the next several hours because the cold front that will clear us out is out to the west. it is making its way into washington county right now and has that tornado warning in effect for allegany county. things will start to couple down but before it happens severe thunderstorms and flooding are occurring. the rain has been happening over frederick
