we were in a big bullpen, 75 men, and about an equal amount of women on the other side.o they just had mattresses with no blankets, and it was cold in that particular time. in march in alabama. so they just threw in a handful of dusty blankets. and of course the bigger guys went for them, and they were just taking their blankets. i was standing on the side. because as i said, i'm 140 pounds. i wasn't about to get into that fray. so worth long stood up on a table. worth long is about 5'6", 5'7", i guess. maybe 5'8". but not a big guy. and he's got on glasses. he looks like an organizer in the whole european context. and he says, hey, hey. hey. he had to holler a few times. he said i don't know about you, but if i was a man i wouldn't take a blanket unless everybody had a blanket. and they're still fighting. i wouldn't take a blanket unless everybody got a blanket. so by this time people were looking around at themselves and one by one those guys just came. p.o.w. threw those blankets down. another moving moment in my life because from that point forward we were organized.
