let's get right to the big board and meteorologist cecily tynan. cecily, what's the situation telling you? >> no white christmas, jim. but a wet christmas eve, especially the first half. we'll be drying out in the afternoon but showing the system i'm tracking low pressure north of detroit will stay to our north so that takes the cold air with it. what will happen it will drag a cold front through our region tomorrow and it a fast-moving system. if you look near philadelphia we are showing some radar echos, most of that is evaporating but the rain should be moving in between about 3:00 in the morning west and 6:00 east. temperature-wise it's not that cold, though. 39 in philadelphia, allentown 34, reading 36, mill vil 38. even in the poconos the temperature has jumped one degree in the past hour. at 10:00 it was 32. now it's 33. but there could be a few pockets of cold air in the far northwest suburbs. because of that the national weather service has issued a freezing rain advisory from burks county, upper bucks county, lehigh valley in the poconos

cecily tynan is in for adam with the latest. >> what a beautiful day our first full day of winter and temperatures not feeling that bad. we are live on sky 6 hd this is our city hall camera looking at the rothman ice rink at dillworth park, people are out there getting exercise and you don't have to bundle up too much it's not that harsh but the winds are picking up and feeling colder, we have reached the 50s earlier this afternoon and now down to 48 degrees in philadelphia, the same in wilmington and 50 in atlantic city, and 43 in allentown and 44 in trenton but what you really feel is the winds, winds gusting close to 30 miles per hour. out of the northwest so those temperatures are really deceiving, windchills are in the 30s and dropping into the 20s as we head through the evening hours. satellite 6 along with action radar showing that we started the day way lot of cloud as head of that front that rolled through around lunch time, behind it lots of sunshine and tonight's skies will be clear. unlike last night when we had the cloud cover and an atmospheric blanket tonight it will be

lets get the latest from meteorologist, cecily tynan. >> i'm bundled up too, there is a chill in the air but tomorrow it feels 30 degrees colder than right now. 38 degrees in philadelphia down from the high of 43 that is 2 degrees below normal. and pittsburgh temperatures in the 20s. the arctic air is heading into the great lakes. international falls 7 degrees below zero. that is the air temperature. minneapolis 2 and bismark, north dakota it's zero. and that will move through later on tonight. future tracker showing as it moves in it will interact with the jet streak to the south and that pulls up the lift and that will likely pull out moisture in the form of snow mainly across south jersey and delaware in the wee hours of the morning. the problem is that that is moving in as the cold air is. it can freeze immediately. the coating of snow between midnight and 4:00 in the morning, again areas southeast of the i-95, the best potential with the possibility of a flash freeze on untreated surfaces so the morning commute could be icy. the windchill cape may southern delaware, 10 to 15 but

cecily tynan has the latest again on the plummeting temperatures. winter is not here yet but it will feel like it. >> right now not that bad, seasonable temperatures, but double scan live radar showing it looks like winter in the poconos, light snow showers near lake harmony and mt. pocono. it should not amount to much maybe a coating to an inch in the higher elevations as the system swings through. 44 was our high, 45 is the average high. philadelphia 43 right now and trenton and wilmington 40 and cape may 41 and allentown and reading 38 degrees. what a difference a year makes though. today's high 44 and tomorrow 42 thursday is when the high plummets to 24 degrees but this time period last year, we had record warmth, 71, 70 and 69. record el niÑo last year a completely different weather pattern now. satellite 6 along with action radar showing a cold front i'm tracking right now just pushing into the poconos, we have low pressure down to the south. that moves to the east and what means that the front as it pulls through kind of falls apart. future t

cecily's live at the "action news" big board with the details on this friday.rick and sharrie. and this storm system will come in two parts. first we get the warm front. double scan live showing this leading edge of precipitation moving through the midwest approaching pittsburgh and this is what will be approaching our region late tonight and moving in the wee hours of morning. winter weather advisory has been posted for our entire viewing area from 10 o'clock tonight into saturday. it will be expiring from the south to the north because that's where the warm air will be coming from and that's how you get that changeover. but right now it's certainly cold enough for snow. 24 degrees in philadelphia, second day of temperatures stuck in the 20's. and as that moisture moves in, it will begin as snow. now, what's really important is when does this all change over to rain because this low will be passing to our west and we will get that warm air. we will get an eventual changeover everywhere. as far as extreme southern new jersey, southern delaware, it happens early
