christina loren is here. good morning. >> june gloom. >> after the last couple days, i'll take the gloom. >> i think a lot of people will. i think that is very optimistic look when you look out your window in san francisco. you know, my friends, that is what keeps you from having to run your ac. overnight, temperatures are running anywhere between about five to eight degrees cooler than 24 hours ago. we're waking up with comfortable levels out there. it's brisk out there and this, my friends, the coolest part of the day. outdoor activity getting taken care of before it reaches the 90s in the tri-valley. widespread 50s out there to start the day. fog not so much widespread and kind of confined right around the inner bay and out towards the coast, but wree nice and clear to start you out in the south bay and also clear sky extends all the way into the tri-valley. we don't see warm again. we'll see enough of that ocean air coming in all day long to keep your temperatures about 10 to 15 degrees cooler than normal

meteorologist christina explains why snow pack is more important than rainfall when it comes to getting us out of the drought. >> the sierra ski season started with uninviting conditions due to snow accumulations in december and january, even with several moisture rich late season storms overall snow pack is still way below average. >> we're concerned about the drought. we live here in the mountains. we're concerned about fire danger in the summer. we're as prague mat tick and real about this as anybody. take a look at the mountain now and say there is a drought going on but we're still able to ski. >> thanks to strides in snow making coupled with cool overnight temperatures, tahoe ski resorts are able to steadily make and preserve snow keeping large crowds content and open. >> we have a whole month of skiing left at the mountain. >> aside from the ski resorts, you might be surprised to learn snow pack is absolutely critical to the bay area's water supply. >> the snow you see provides 1/3rds for the entire state of california. melting snow runs down during late, spring and summer when w

christina ranich chose to accept a five-year plea on charges of i.d.property. but things don't always go as planned. >> i expected five years and i didn't expect them to stack my charges. i don't know what the hell i expected. i didn't expect this. this is not what i expected. >> because ranich committed her latest crimes while on parole for other offenses, the judge decided to add the 2 1/2 years left on her prior sentence to the 5 year plea deal for a total of 7 1/2 years. >> everybody was there. i mean, mom was crying, my brother was crying, my fiancee was crying. >> to make matters worse, ranich's children were not at the sentencing. but another group of children were. >> there's a field trip at my court. they had all kinds of people come in, little kids, about two rows full on the prosecutor's side so they could watch and learn like what not to do and what to do and i was their example. that made me feel like this big. >> since ranich will be transferred within hours, her fiancee has come to say good-bye. between them, they have three children. >>

we'll check that microclimate forecast with meteorologist christina loren. good morning. >>> good morning, kris scott, everybody at home. i want to show you the weather story of the day. that's the fact we are waking up with low cloud cover. we take you to the highest point we can. this is our san bruno camera overlooking the bay. and this is all the fog that we have to show you this morning. and that is not enough to keep the bay area cool my friends. so it will be hot out there with the exclusion of the immediate coast. you're going to hit the upper 70s. meanwhile, in the tri-valley, 101 degrees for you today. 88 degrees for the peninsula. 90 degrees in the south bay. there are some ways that you can beat the heat. close all the blinds before leaving the house this morning. also postpone using the heat generating appliances until after 6:00 p.m. once we bypass the hottest point of the day and temperatures start to cool off, that way you're not adding heat to your home. you can also seek shade when parking. that's a good tip. or use one of the awesome-looki

to get a check on today, let's go to christina loren. >> you know it's a really good note for everybody across the bay area. if you're driving around out there and you see a fire break out, even a tiny brush fire, because it's so dry and we have drought conditions, pull over to the side of the road safely and report that fire as quickly as possible. that's what happened yesterday, and firefighters in san jose were able to knock that brush fire down quickly. so your shep definitely part of the equation when it comes to fire season. keep that in mind. overall though we've had pretty good last five years in the bay area. i can tell you right now though, conditions are ripe this year. sop we definitely, definitely want to be on the fire safety. we haven't hit summer time just yet. 53 in livermore, that arrives on saturday. let's focus on tuesday, we have to get through the workweek first. your sun will tliez morning, my friends at 5:46. your temps will climb by about five top ten degrees from yesterday. you'll notice the wind not as strong as the coast which is why we're seeing the cloud fo
