we're live in mill valley, cierra johnson, nbc bay area news. >> thank you, cierra. let's take you to san francisco live. in a matter of time before the city, they're going to move into the red tier as well. city health officials say san francisco could make that move as early as next week. this is because the infection rate is looking so much better there. being in the red tier is one of the requirements needed for san francisco schools to reopen. the school board unanimously approving a tentative agreement from unions over requirements to resume in-person instruction. it includes prioritizing vaccines for teachers, covid testing, ppe along with enhanced cleaning and health screenings. there is no firm reopening date but the goal is to resume in-person instruction before the end of the academic school year. meanwhile there's a growing outrage in the south bay as the school district decides to bring chronicle reporting los gatos saratoga reached an agreement with the teachers union to allow high school students to return in two groups on wednesdays for one hour. supe

"today in the bay" cierra johnson live in the city. a lot of new developments in this really on going saga. >> reporter: good morning. on going saga it is. the biggest development right now is that the school board is looking to transition some of that are attention. they were focussed on renaming about 40 of those schools with the names that some folks found offensive. their now focus will be on getting students back into the classroom. now, there was an op-ed written by the school board president in the chronicle gabee la lopez recognized there may have been some mistakes renaming of the 44 schools in the district. she continued by explaining that reopening schools is now the board's only focus. that op-ed comes as some parents began circulating petitions to recall as many as three board members. of course there's the on going lawsuit against the board from the city and also over the weekend, teachers around parents held a candle light vigil on saturday as union negotiations with the board continue. teachers are still pushing for som

cierra, what do we know? >> reporter: yes, good morning.t right now, as we know according to the "san francisco chronicle," the city is filing that first step, that lawsuit today and according to "the chronicle" allegedly has the blessing of mayor london breed. let's break down what the suit is alleging, san francisco unified school district violated a state law by not adopting a clear plan for education during the pandemic. the article explains that they did have a plan to begin reopening schools for younger learners, and those with disabilities, we reported on that last year but the district could not reach an agreement with the teachers union so the plan was scrapped. several groups of union employees have formed their own groups requesting their needs have not been met, for the school to reopen and needed access to the covid vaccine, ppe and proper ventilation so at this point, what's next?
