dave clark has today off. >> i'm tori campbell. its thursday, october 11th -- it's thursday, october 11th. >>> hayward police wrapped up a press conference to talk about the latest twist in the case of michaela garrett. she was kidnapped over 20 years. claudine wong has more. >> reporter: good morning, tori. we just got out of the hayward police department from this press conference. we talked about what could be a break in this case. we're in kind of a waiting game, though. they said they are waiting for results from dna testing but that could take several weeks. they are looking at a small bone that they think could belong to her. let's talk about how she got her. her days goes back to 1988. that's when she went missing. she was 9 years old when she was kidnapped outside grocery store. police say this may not be the answer but they are certainly looking into it. >> from the investigators that i spoke with, she was -- i don't know what to say. she understood the gravity and the -- is wanting to find closure i

dave clark has the day today. >> i'm tori campbell. it's wednesday, october 10th. we're tracking developing news out of union city. that's where several businesses were damaged overnight in a massive fire at a strip mall. claudine wong is live at the scene where firefighters are preparing to enter the building to look for the cause of the fire. >> reporter: good morning there are a variety of businesses here. you have a pizza shop and a restaurant. that area is the location where the firefighters believe the fire started. the smoke was spotted at about 1:00 a.m. this morning. but firefighters believe it had been burning for quite a while. it had just been in the roof area. so no one had seen it until about 1:00. the damage stretches across the strip mall but they believe it likely started at a pizza restaurant in the inside corner. >> probably that's the area where the fire started and we have to get our investigator in there. we have to make sure it is safe before we put anyone else in there. >> reporter: we did get an upclose look at the damage. you can see the d

i'm tori campbell. >> i'm dave clark. it's tuesday, it's october 16th. >>> overnight one person was seriously hurt in san francisco's mission district during a wild street brawl just hours ago. allie rasmus live at 16th and va len seepia now. you have talked to a witness. what did they say, aley? >> reporter: was a brawl involving anywhere from 20 to 0 people. this is 16th and valencia -- 20 to 30 people. this is 16th and va seia -- valencia. one person was seriously hurt in the fight. he went to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. according to the witness, the victim was the so fuss -- was the focus of the fight. it appeared he was being attacked by several people at once. when the fight appeared to be over, a taxi pulled up and several people who had been fighting jumped in and took off. >> that man explained to us in spanish that the taxi didn't stop. it said it looked like the guy -- officers at the scene say they don't believe it was a gang-related fight but the witness we talked to said because of the type

i'm dave clark. >> good morning. i'm tori campbell. >>> our top story this morning, the first significant rainfall of the season. we have team coverage. steve's tracking the storm. sal's watching the roads. let's go first to alex savidge covering the biggest problems and road problems. >> reporter: within the last half-hour or so, we saw a heavy downpour come through marin county, where we've been. these are the northbound lanes of 101 coming toward us here. whenever you get significant rainfall and the rain just started to come down very heavy, just within the last half-hour, you can see some of that standing water starting to build up on the section of the roadway, cars coming through here seeing some folks slowing down. i want to show you what the scene looked like. here is some video, cars coming through this area. there wasn't a whole lot of standing water. according to a spokesperson for the chp that talked with here in the marin area, he told me, really, they don't have too much in the way of significant probl

. >>> good morning of the i'm dave clark. welcome to "mornings on 2." >> tori campbell. >>> breaking news in san jose. crews rushed there after a report of an explosion. alex savidge is on the scene. what do we know so far, alex? >> reporter: well, still a very active scene here. san jose firefighters inside this home behind us here, trying to make sure this fire is knocked down. there is one gentleman sitting here with a blanket around him. one of the people inside the home this morning. five people were inside at the -- in the home at the time, includinging who were hurt. tell me about the injuries. >> minor burns just from exposure to the heat. >> reporter: we heard this started with an explosion? >> that was the report. the report was an explosion fired by a crew. first thing, crews found a couple of bedrooms on fire. as far as the explosion goes, that's still under investigation. the hazmat team is here to do some monitoring to figure out if it was gas-related or another cause. >> reporter: thank you very much, can't be.

us on ktvu channel 2 morning news, a brand-new day, monday, a brand- new month october 1st, i am dave clarkell the search is on for two missing men right now off the san mateo coast. those men disappeared when their boat capsized lorraine, what do you know this morning? >> reporter: well, dave one coast guard boat remains in the water and you can see it is dark in san mateo but daylight, we are expecting to see a helicopter searching in the area as he will with. we spoke with under with of the men, they said they went because he was not a good swimmer. they are looking 20 miles south of half-moon bay. they were on a fishing trip with two other men who were able to swim to shore and call for help. the men left from san francisco early saturday morning for a day of fishing with friends and family members are staying whosetive. >> i hope the coast guard keeps on looking for my brother and not stopping just keep searching. >> two of the men were taken to the hospital with hypothermia. the coast guard said the fog made searching difficult ktvu channel 2 morning news. >> overnight a man and woman

it is october 17th, i am dave clark. >>> well in the news, happening now, as the sun starts to come up it is the biggest cata moran after it capsized in the san francisco bay. you are getting a closer look and you also look what this all means, alex. >> reporter: i will tell you this accident was triggered by rough conditions out on the bay. strong winds close to 30 miles per hour and it caused a strong current and it eventually drifted several miles out to sea. last night they towed it back to headquarters which is at pier 80 in san francisco. the damaged boat is still in the water but it will be pulled out to be inspected. here is video as oracle boats went end over end yesterday afternoon. the $8 million cata moran capsized during a training run on the bay. they all escaped with just minor bumps and bruises. the capsized boat was caught by a strong tide and it drifted, it took several hours for a crew member to tow the boat back in. folks are saying that the platform, the wing's sale may be destroyed. they are getting ready to defend america's cup. >> this is a big test and last tim

i'm dave clark. >> good morning, dave. >> thank you. >> i'm tori campbell. it's monday, october 15th. >>> a man is dead and police are searching for the gunman of an overnight shooting in oakland. it happened on hilton street near 57th avenue. alex savidge is at the oak police station with more why they need your help to track the suspect down. >> reporter: good morning. detectives have their work cut out for them. they don't have any solid witnesses. this shooting happened just before 1:00 on hilton street, the 50000 block. that's where we watched as they picked up shellcationings. i was told by an officer that the shooter fired at least -- shell casings. i was told by an officer that the shooter fired at least 12 wounds. they found a man on the ground and he was unresponsive. the man was transported to the hospital where he died just a half-hour later following the shooting. investigators have not identified the victim or released his name. they couldn't even tell me roughly how old this man was. at this point, oakland police don't have a whole lot to go o

i'm dave clark. >> i'm claudine wong. we are continuing to follow developing news out of castro valley. crews responded to a fire at a home on san carlos shortly after midnight. they found a body at the back of the house and alex savage said the fire is suspicious. >> reporter: that's the information we just got from a lieutenant. they have shut off the entire section of the street. we are being kept back from the home. this death is deemed suspicious by investigators. the body still inside this house. investigators right now are canvassing the neighborhood and talking to people nearby. they are waiting for a search warrant to go in and get evidence inside the house. we are show you what it looked like earlier. it started with reports of a small fire just after midnight. crews put the fire out and found a person dead inside this house on the 2400 block of san carlos. one neighbor noticed the fire but didn't see much in the way of flames, just a lot of smoke. a lieutenant was asked if the body inside had signs of trauma. h
