. >> from our delaware bureau, a wilmington crime crackdown. there's been 18 shootings in the city so far this year. today the mayor announced an anti-violence initiative called operation safe streets. they're implements new policing tactics including 19 additional officers. it calls on residents to help by reporting and assisting in solving crime. >>> new information about a deadly police-involved shooting in wilmington. police say bruce altenberger was distraught and armed with a gun when police arrived at the home last night. officers tried to calm him down for several minutes but the 60-year-old reportedly pointed a gun at them. that's when the officer fired killing altenberger. >>> a man is accused of beating and choking his mother because she changed the tv channel. today north hampton county police gave us this mug shot of david cantrell. police say he choked his mother until she lost consciousness. happened in the borough of bath sunday night. he remains in jail tonight. >>> new jersey is making moves to create a public registry for ani

nbc 10 delaware bureau reporter tim furlong will have more on the impact on this breach at 5:00. >>> defense lawyers are trying to get a landmark case in the catholic church sexual abuse scandal. >> monsignor lynn was before the court again today. >> reporter: he has served 33 months in prison. was released last summer when a new trial was ordered. monsignor william lynn is prevented from talking about the case against him and so are all the lawyers involved. but we can tell you inside an 11th floor courtroom in philadelphias prosecutors were accused of misconduct and withholding information they say should have been disclosed that would have been prevented lynn from being convicted. lynn was a former aide to the cardinal. prosecutors say lynn continued the church's practice of rotating pedophile priests from parish to parish. today lynn's lawyers accused the district attorney of hiding information about the victim in the case. a former philadelphia detective took the stand and told the judge he voiced concerns about inaccuracies in the victim's account. when he brought it to the pro

nbc 10 delaware bureau reporter tim furlong is in bethany beach. how are the conditions there? >> reporter: i have been up and down the entire state. i left my home and it was windy and rainy and now bethany, the other side of the flags that's the beach and the ocean. you can see it whipping through here. i came to bethany also to check a couple of the spots susceptible to flooding. not too, too bad yet. you can see the conditions sort of going that direction. but so far, not too bad in the spots that usually get hit the worst and that's a good thing. i can tell you a couple of spots by the indian river inlet, south shore marina, some of the roads almost impassable and the road in front of me here, a lot of trees down, branches down a lot of leaves flying here and pine needles all over the place and in the a great situation and tell you in this boxy storm vehicle, i used a ton of gas to get down here and a fight to keep the vehicle straight on the road because the wind is pulling you and i think you can probably see the wires up top. i also want to show you some video from our
