san jose with a look at what's being done at this hour. . >> reporter: storm prep is something that the city and the county does all year long. it's especially important in places like downtown san jose that are vulnerable to flooding during winter rain. winter rain is on the way in the bay area. in san jose maintenance workers are cleaning out catch basins that are under these grates in the street. if they become clogged, the streets will flood. >> how many of these do you get to in one day? >> we do between 80 and 100 per day? >> the storm prep is something this works on all year. but this cleaning started in early summer. there are 32,000 catch basin al will be cleaned by mid-december. >> the downtown area and sensitive areas will go through and do a second round of cleaning. >> reporter: meanwhile, at stevens creek, the water district is busy clearing out debris and other trash. so it doesn't become like a dam and send water into streets and homes if there's heavy rain. >> sometimes in the first rain, there's more runoff than normal. there might be more debris or pollution. think of it as debugging the creeks. >> reporter: the city of san jose will have crews on stand by

just for some background, google is planning a massive community in downtown san jose for 15,000 of its employees to live, work, eat and shop. so earlier this week on tuesday, san jose mayor sam liccardo wrote on facebook that the deal has google paying full freight and then some for land, taxes, fees, traffic impacts and additional community benefits, including affordable housing. the mayor says this is a contrast to the billions of dollars in subsidies amazon asked for and got from local community in new york and virginia, where it will split its second headquarters. >>> earlier this week, two community groups filed suit against the city of san jose, saying it's not good enough for them. they claim that the city and google reached their deal through nondisclosure and closed session meetings, in violation of the brown act. the brown act, in case you don't know, is the act that was intended to keep city business out in the open. the city attorney says san jose did nothing wrong. >>> the city council, meanwhile, is set to vote on december 4th on whether this project can move forward. whe
