katy zachary is live at einstein medical center where friends and family are gathering now. mayor michael nutter is on his way as is fire commissioner derek sawyer. >> that's right. a very sad morning and sad day for the philadelphia fire department. in just the last few minutes, we've seen a number of philadelphia fire vehicles, as well as police cars come into the property of einstein medical center. we're told there is a large gathering of firefighters and police officers to offer support to the family of the fallen firefighter. now, firefighters tell us she was trapped in the basement. fire broke out inside a home and a live picture of that home on middletown street in west oak lane. the sole occupant of that home got out uninjured. once they pulled their fellow firefighter to the basement she was brought here to einstein medical center where she died around 4:00 a.m. around two hours ago. a large gathering of firefighters was at the scene praying now. many of them have shifted their support here to the hospital. the last time a philadelphia firefighter was killed in the

early this morning, at einstein medical center, i offered condolences and spend some time with joyce's family and a number of friends came to the hospital as well. she was a much loved mother, daughter, and sister, i did not know joyce personally, but i have come to know a number of things about her. she loved her job. she was a highly trained firefighter. she served in some of the busiest stations in the city on behalf of our citizens, specifically engine 9 and ladder 21, 6900 german town avenue in the german town section of our city. engine 25, west york street in philadelphia and engine 64, at rising sun in the rhawnhurst section. and she graduated from dawburn high school and earned her certificate in emt. our condolences go out to her family, this brave firefighter gave her life attempting to save the life of an elderly, frail woman this morning. the resident was rescued from the home and she is staying with some neighbors. joyce is survived by her son, mckey dante green, her daughter,malany lewis, and her mother carol craig, father james craig and brother kareem craig and sister
