in emeryville, velena jones, nbc, bay area news. san mateo county leaders took the next step in the mounting effort to oust the sheriff. board of supervisors formally approved plans for a special election on march 4th. they're asking voters now to grant the board power to remove sheriff christina corpus. corpus is accused of fostering a culture of fear and retaliation, as well as incidents of racism and homophobia. corpus denies all the accusations, calling them politically motivated. today, a newly hired attorney called for the board to delay that vote. we're going to have a serious conversation with the sheriff about doing that, and i hear from the supervisors their sense of urgency to get this done. urgency to you, the members of this board who are attorneys is not a reason to eliminate due process or the sheriff's constitutional rights. now, the measure did pass unanimously, with supervisor david canepa absent. corpus says the effort to remove her undermines the will of the voters who elected her by a wide margin two years ago.
