good evening i'm frank somerville. >> i'm julie haener. state auditor record slams the agency created to help key you safe on the road. east bay state senator requested the audit following last year's deadly limo fire on the san mateo bridge. ktvu patty lee is live at sfo with the problems outlined in that state report. >> reporter: julie, if you ever catch an airport shuttle or hop on to a limousine you expect those carriers to be safe and some agency is keeping tabs, but this 45 page report out today says that is just not the case and the cpuc must make changes. after five women died trapped in this burning limousine in may of 2013, state auditors were called in. >> unfortunately five people had to die for them to take action. >> reporter: caught the horrifying scene with a cell phone camera images that still haunt him. the fire was ultimately blamed on mechanical failure. now the agency responsible for overseeing passenger transport vehicles in california has been found inadequate. >> they are not adequately ensuring the public is safe.

. >> i'm frank somerville. another bay area bridge, another problem. this time, it's it's new carkena's bridge, the problem and how that problem might impact other bridges as well. >> reporter: frank, the problem is over on actually the other side on the vallejo side of the newer span of the bridge, and caltrains basely announced today they found cracked and broken parts in the seismic joint. caltran says an inspection on may 15 uncovered the problem on the newer part of the bridge. seismic joints absorbed movement, and had been under scrutiny, when crews first noticed a clanking sound on the northern joint from an offcenter pin. they discovered parts of the northern joint were cracked, and off center. one of the joint's 90 pivot pins is damaged, and has slipped off its bearing. also a plastic stirrup is cracked. crews installed temporary wood pieces to stabilize the joint. a spokesman says there is no safety risk for drivers. two other bay area bridges have similar problems. >> there is a similar design on the martinez bridge. >> reporter: those bridge

frank somerville is off tonight. >> and i'm julie haener. late word of an arrest in the last 40 minutes in san francisco with a series of arsons south of market. heather holmes broke this story about the search for a firebug exactly one week ago tonight, and she's live in the city with the word of the arrest. >> reporter: the suspect has been arrested. he is the man seen in those surveillance videos, and pictures we showed right here on the 10:00 news just last night. he has yet to be identified, but i'm told police will be giving more details sometime tomorrow. as we were first to report last week on this string of arsons, this suspect has been connected to at least a dozen fires. occupy buildings and dumpsters. julie, this has obviously kept the san francisco fire department's arson unit extremely busy over the past  few weeks. this has been their top priority. during my reporting, i have learned this has been a unit that has all but been eliminated. efforts are underway to try to bring back this unit to full force. >> restoring funding

good evening everyone i'm frank somerville. >> and i'm julie haener. we showed you the fire fight live on ktvu news at 5:00 and 6:00. tonight firefighters have controlled this blaze that destroyed several structures in fairfield after jumping a freeway at the cordelia junction. a battalion chief tallied the damage for us. four sheds and a garage were lost to the flames along with three homes. we get the developing news tonight from debora villalon. she's live near the intersection of interstate 80 and 680 where the first report of this fire came in just about 4:00 this afternoon. why did this fire get out of control so fast? >> reporter: essentially in one word it was the wind. the wind was just whipping for hours out here. right now it's pretty much just mop up. you can see pg & e back there. they are restoring pole that is were destroyed by this ferocious fire. fires consuming several buildings on its marchest. a battalion chief described the early going -- on its march east. >> they're trying to find some place to hold it. >> reporter: holding it pr
