this happened on i-270 in germantown. megan mcdwrath livekcgrath live along the highway where the lanes are clean again. >> reporter: that's right, all the lanes of southbound 270 are open in the area of father hurley. so no traffic tie ups this morning. but we're still trying to figure out why a man was in the roadway this morning when he was hit by a tractor trailer and killed. police tell me the man, an adult, was in lane three of traffic right around 1:30 this morning when he was struck. there were three lanes of traffic closed during the investigation early this morning. now, the driver of the tractor trailer did remain on the scene. there was a car we're told by police in the area but it was not registered to the man who was killed in this. so they're not sure whether he was associated with that vehicle, whether there was a breakdown situation or something like that and that's why he was along the road there in the lane of traffic there. they're still trying to piece all of that together and they have not yet releas
