gloria.his isn't the first time. >> it isn't reggie. it's the second year in a row that there's been a big mudslide on this portion of highway nine. it's between redwood gulch road and sanborn in the saratoga area. we have video of it right here. you can see just a big mess. caltrans decided to close the highway yesterday. officials say the mud is just too wet and soupy for crews to clean it up. crews have been actively working to improve the stretch since september to install new drainage and improve the hillside. last year, a similar slide took out two roads, including a driveway that leads to five homes. a temporary road was installed, but the county says a private driveway is not their responsibility. that's left residents frustrated because they can't fix their driveway until a permanent road is finished. >> how long is it going to take for them to really support that road? because we were at their mercy, like, you know, they they hold all the cards as far as what we can do. >> a timelin

gloria rodriguez, abc seven news. >> all right, gloria, thank you. now, some last minute christmas magic helped save a holiday meal program for homebound seniors. every year, the salvation army relies on volunteers to deliver meals to seniors who can't leave their homes. this year, they had 4400 meals to deliver. but there were there were dozens of volunteers short. and to make matters worse, thieves stole the batteries to three of their delivery trucks. but a call for help was answered. volunteers stepped up and someone paid to replace the car batteries. >> this feels like a hallmark movie. it's a christmas miracle. people came through. we got the batteries. we we've got the volunteers. they came in. we know that when you put the word out to this community in the bay area, they just step up. >> oh, and the salvation army also dealt with another setback. gunshots shattered the front door of their bayview location. fortunately, that damage is already being repaired and the giving spirit is on full display in san francisco's tenderloin neighborhood. >>

gloria, what more are you learning? >> well, fred, those comments from federal officials are doing very little so far to sort of calm down the concerns of some people here in the northeast, in new york and new jersey and connecticut and pennsylvania, just some of the places where these sightings have been reported, including, as you mentioned, in a local airfield here in new york and orange county. stewart field, that is a small airport that is also right next to an air base for the air national guard. so that was causing some concern last night. it led to the shutdown of the airspace over the airport, and it has the governor of new york today reacting to that, saying that it has all gone too far. she is calling on the federal government to step in. and she's also specifically asking for the passage of the counter-uas authority security, safety and reauthorization act. and that is a piece of legislation that would, in part, enable local governments to have a little more power and do more about these sightings. that's wh

cnn's gloria pazmino is looking into all of this. gloria, what more are you learning from the governor's comments yeah, fred, even though the white house officials are telling state and local lawmakers they have nothing to worry about, there's a lot of pushback. >> and now, the governor of the state of new york, where many of these sightings have been reported, has issued a statement saying, in part, that there was a disruption to the airspace over an airport in orange county, new york, yesterday. this is a small local airport that has a military base not far from it. and she said that the airspace had to be shut down for about an hour after they were there. there were reported drone sightings. so in order to respond, she is calling on the biden administration to take action. and she specifically is asking for support of a federal bill that would enable local jurisdictions to essentially counter and do something about these drones. that is an area that is currently governed by federal law. so governor hochul, in part, is saying about

. >> cnn's gloria pazmino has been tracking this story. what are these new details, gloria?> well, jessica, extremely disturbing details that we learned from police officials just a short while ago. this happened early this morning around 730 at the stillwell avenue station in coney island, which is in brooklyn. and this is the end of the subway line. now, police tell us that there was a woman who appeared to be sleeping on the subway car. the subway car was not moving at the time. and then the suspect approached her, lit her on fire, apparently using a lighter. that's what we learned during the press conference just a short while ago. the woman immediately caught caught fire. she was engulfed in flames and officers that were patrolling the station at that hour were able to respond and put out the flames. they were unfortunately not able to save her. ems responded to the scene and the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. now, police really just were able to give a lot of detail, thanks in part to the cameras that were in the subway car. this is a relatively new thing here

gloria. in new york, officials there announced new action today in response to these drone sightings. what more are they doing? and requesting? >> yeah, fred, over the weekend here, we've seen a lot of activity, particularly after an airfield here in new york in orange county had to be shut down for a brief period of time on saturday due to reported drone activity that led the governor here, kathy hochul, to issue a statement and call for more resources from the federal government. and today, we got a response from them. the governor put out a statement this morning saying that the federal government is sending additional resources. she said, our federal partners are deploying a state of the art drone detection system to new york state. this system will support state and federal law enforcement in their investigations. now, i tried to get a little more information about exactly what kind of technology this is, what it looks like, how it operates. but i was told that this is a matter of nation

gloria edelman, gather me. you mentioned a book that i had not heard of by mildred taylor roll of thunder hear my cry. what is that? oh. oh, my goodness. so when encounter that book as a young girl again, i really with her survival. i never again my my parents are nigerian. i i'm growing up united states as a first generation kid i had never traveled to the south. i was still studying and understanding what it meant to be a black american growing up in the rural south, understanding the red clay. i read that book and had a complete just transformation of under myself as a young black girl, understanding her experience. but having a new appreciation for southern and tradition and me. it's another reason why i decided to to howard university. i wanted to be, you know, surrounded with black people from the diaspora, whether they were from the caribbean or, from nigeria or from mississippi or chicago, the midwest. i just wanted be around others that had these unique experiences about their their culture and underst
