[military commands] >> we are actually standing on the parapet or the crest of fort anderson, which was the largest confederate fort in the lowercase fear in the interior -- lower cape fear in the interior. it had western land approaches and river approaches to the seaport of wilmington. they got good intelligent that the attack on wilmington was coming october 1864. they knew that the attack was planned against fort fisher, and so for anderson's garrison was largely depleted to send reinforcements to fort fisher. you might have had a company or two of troops here. there would be two attacks on fort fisher. 1864.s in two and a half weeks later, they returned with a slightly scaled-down naval task force, more soldiers, and this time they were determined to capture the fort. bombardment,s of the second of the civi

heritage -- herndon's characterization of erased her. robert lincoln was appalled, angered enough to put in writing that herndon was making a pass of the self and -- an ass of himself. but the winter of 1866-1867, mary was earmark received. her hopes for funds -- mary was even more but seized. -- mary was even more beseiged. i'm so miserable that i received but few strangers and consequently the friends of other days are dearer than ever to me. in the spring of 67, she sought out a boarding school for thad in racine, wisconsin, but be towed it after a personal visit. thad was managing well in the chicago academy. and robert was getting on with his legal career. both sons were revisited by the grisly details of their father staff when called to washington. -- washington to testify in the summer of 1857. the rock was of broad. he is convicted mother died in the gallows to summers before. mary begged off, pleading illness. during the fall of 1867, vulnerable, exhausted, mary became entangled in in elaborate scheme to cause or even more pain

it was along covered wagon lane in herndon. police responded to a double shooting and found a fire inside a home there and there was a man inside with a knife. they say officer lance gukenb g gukenburger shot the man. officers rescued the the suspect later died. they say gukenburger was involved in two previous shootings. > >> police tell us he responded to an alarm at an ace cash express store. police tell us the robbery was ongoing and the robber fired eight times at gukenburger in an effort to get away. no one else was hurt in that incident. gukenburger earned two medals for his action in that incident, the fairfax county silver medal of valor and the virginia police chief's award for valor. >>> investigators are trying to figure out why a csx freight train derailed in maryland. the train left cumberland this morning and never made final destination because this happened. the train was carrying appliances, construction material, food and steel. there was no impact to the surrounding community. >>> less than three months ago
