jeff hager has the details. >> you can call it the gauntlet, that stretch that feeds into route 50 just before cars have to move right. you have a recipe for disaster. >> reporter: every time an officer pulls over they're risk their life. that was the case when the officer attempted to stop a car and it braked to a stop. the officer instructed the driver to move to the shoulder. the toyota celica came around that curve and slowed down when it saw the flashing lights but the car behind it did not. >> at that point the celica was struck from the rear. that vehicle struck the celica, that hit the officer who was attempting to avoid that collision. >> the ac cow a still struck another car and ended up in the guardrail. the officer later identified as corporal cameron mont suffered injuries to his lower extreme ties and were taken to the shock trauma center. this underscores the heightened danger of some of their most routine duties -- policing our roads. >> many officers are killed on roadways. this is indicative of how dangerous it is and then sustained serious injuries from a vehicle. >>
