first, let's go to our chief white house correspondent, jim acosta. jim, what are you learning right now about the shutdown negotiations and the president's strategy? >> reporter: wolf, they're still at a standstill. president trump is planning a full-court press over the next few days for his border wall with an address to the nation and a trip to the border both planned for this week. earlier today, vice president pence held a briefing with reporters and tried to make the case that there is a growing crisis at the border, as this shutdown drags on. for president trump this week, it's the wall or bust. today, the white house announced the president will deliver a primetime address to the nation tuesday night and make a special trip to the border, all part of a last-ditch effort to ram his wall through congress. democrats doubt the speech will be worth the airtime. >> i expect the president to lie to the american people. why do i expect this? because he has been lying to the american people and spokespeople continue lying to the american people. >> rep
