jewel julie carey is joining us from where the victim was hit and killed. >> reporter: this confirmsf what was told about the tragic accident that claimed the life of jeff aguilar. he was a popular employee at the sports bar and walking home on a stormy night when he was struck and killed by the police cruiser. at least one community group is saying that they don't think the video goes far enough and we won't show you the graphic part. where he worked, they are still coming to terms with his death. released on youtube hoped show the officer who struck andç killed him and it was termed an unfortunate accident as the light he hits was green when suddenly the victim is directly in his path. >> the pedestrian seemed to come out of nowhere as soon as that happened, the officer called for an ambulance and rendered aid. >> there are details about the 2013 miss shooting and led to years of criticism. the group in northern virginia has been one of the harshest critics pushing for full transparency. >> i really wish that they and i'd like to hear that they called immediately for help and one

julie carey looked at that video and reveals how it fits with what police said about the accident. reporter: well, the victim sports bar in the kingstown area. he was walking home on a stormy night when he was struck and killed by a police cruiser. the video released today that i watched confirms what police have said about this incident. the groups that have been pushing for more transparency would like to see more. we're not going to show you that video in its entirety because of the graphic nature. a gofund me page raised $26,000 for jeff aguilar, described as a young man with a heart of gold. the fairfax county officer who struck and killed him did not bear any responsibility, calling it an unfortunate accident. the video released today on youtube seems to bear that out. there is poor visibility as the officer turns on to the street and the light ahead is green. he has the right-of-way when suddenly theç victim is in his path. happened, the officer stopped, immediately exited, called for an ambulance and rendered medical aid. >> reporter: after a failure to reveal details abou

our northern virginia bureau chief julie carey spoke with a survivor today. >> reporter: this piece of paper and the questions it contains can be a lifesaver. this program was launched a year ago from the fairfax county police department. it wasn't around when this woman called police several times between 2008 and 2011 to report her husband was hurting her. she finally left him when he pulled a gun. >> i walked the opposite direction. i did hear a gunshot and i turned around and i saw the gun that he was holding and pointed in our direction. >> the patrol officers are now required to ask the victims domestic violence call. when an answer is "yes," the victim is screened at high danger and officers are equipped with flip phones so they can connect the victim right away with a domestic violence counselors. >> the priority is to get the victim out of the perilous situation immediately. >> reporter: that counselor then helps determine what is needed to help protect the victim. >> we know that three out of the four victims stay with us so they continue with services in some capacity, wheth
