meteorologist kari hall has the answer for us working from home. kari, i know you've been spot on with the forecasts for a long time and yesterday you delivered. it was nice and sunny. >>> it was beautiful yesterday. i enjoyed some time outside even doing a zoom birthday party yesterday in the backyard. as we check out what's going on for us today more of the same, in fact, slightly warmer. let's head over to martinez to check out our temperature trend. it starts out very cool. we're only in the upper 40s this morning. but can see that trend in the temperatures that goes up as we go into late morning into the afternoon. eventually we'll make it into the low to mid-70s there for today. and then as we check out all of our micro climates looking at our high temperatures for this afternoon we're up to 79 degrees in antioch today and 79 in napa. oakland reaching 75 degrees. san francisco up to 67 degrees in san jose reaching 75. so really nice and comfortable today, but we're also above normal. and so as we go into the rest of the week we'll start to se

kari, what are we expecting? >>> well, we saw light rain move through the south bay earlier you're about to head out the door it's looking pretty good. our live view shows we don't have any fog right now, just some clouds overhead and our temperatures are starting out in the low 50s. we'll see it warming up as we go into today with a mix of sun and clouds, peeks of sun more curran -- a lot more widespread. a nice one today as well as the next several days as our temperatures warm up. i'll talk more about this. we'll get a look at our seven-day forecast coming up. mike has a look at the early morning drive for everyone heading out, our essential workers especially. >> and there's nothing holding them up over there getting across the bay. instead of fog we have an issue of visibility. you'll notice it's dark between treasure island and the oakland toll plaza. it is dark there. the street lighting or the roadway lighting has been out since at least midnight. i saw that noted on twitter. headlights and taillights no

let's check the forecast with kari hall. we needed that rain. >> we did and we're in a moderate drought right now. and this storm did not disappoint bringing over one inch of rain for many of our micro climates and over 5 for the santa cruz mountains. we're still seeing it come down in the south bay and this is where we will have our highest chance of rain going into today and tomorrow where scattered showers will still continue but we're looking at a little bit closer look as we see the showers moving in right now. extending to fremont and up and down the peninsula as well. we're still tracking some rain. the possibility of thunderstorms between 2:00 and 6:00 this afternoon with heavy rain and small hail still possible. i'll be tracking that with another update in a few minutes. any issues for essential workers heading out the door, mike? >>> no major issues. we're looking out at muni. we have fewer of them. some cutbacks. a muni spokesperson told us to expect increased wait times today because there are fewer operators but

a nice one coming, kari?, we enjoyed really nice weather for the bay area, but also wanted to give you an update on the drought conditions. our drought monitor updated every thursday. we are still experiencing an extreme drought further to the north for the bay area. we are in a severe drought and we know that. it has been a while since we have had a good soaking rain. for southern california, that's where the storm track has been for much of the season. if you go south of the bay area, there are no drought conditions but you can see the way it trends for us, with spots like santa rosa needing 16 inches of rain to catch up to normal. as we go through the month of may we start to trend drier as we look at our overall weather pattern. we are looking at temperatures today and at least feeling much more comfortable. it was warm to start out this week and we set some record highs in the north bay, but we are looking at more seasonable weather. reaching in the upper 70s in the north bay, and san jose will reach 74

meteorologist kari hall has been tracking what we can expect today.ari, you've been telling us throughout the morning it's going to be a warmer one today. >> yeah, this will be the warmest day of the week as our temperatures peak. it's nice to know we have a cooldown in the forecast. live in san jose, i've enjoyed looking around at these cameras. here is a look at lafayette as we're seeing some of those green hills starting to turn brown. it's something we'll watch as this dry and very warm weather continues. in fact some of us may set some record highs today, watching the numbers in santa rosa, where our forecast is 86 degrees but also the record is 86 degrees. that was set back in 2013. and that just gives you a reminder that it's not supposed to be this warm at this time in april. now, in concord, we'll be close to a record. but i don't think we'll set a new one. it is possible, though, as we watch a lot of those temperatures elsewhere. we'll be well above normal but probably not setting a record high. as we reach 85 degrees in livermore, we'll fee

meteorologist kari hall giving us the forecast from home today. ka kari, how is it looking? >> not too bad whatsoever across the bay area. in fact all the rain we had recently is moving away. so we're still left with some clouds and also a slight chance of rain. but for the most part, our trend will be for us to dry out. let's get a look at our microclimate forecast as we check out our high temperatures for today. we're heading into the mid-60s in the south bay, which is right why we should be, reaching up to 66 degrees. some upper 60s for the east bay and the north bay and the lower 60s farther to the north. now, we are going to also once again still have a slight chance of rain. the storm system we had is now to the south of us. as we open up the picture, it's still spinning. we're on the northern edge of that. today we're looking at still some light showers but a lot of that heavier rain across parts of southern california. let's get a look at our hour by hour forecast because it does show some rain returning for the south bay, the south county, at about 2:00 to 3:00, but
