let's get to meteorologist kari hall with a look at what we can expect today. >> it's still unhealthy as far as the air quality and we're still in our microclimate weather alert astomorrow. the smoke still incoming storm, so we have storm ranger, our mobile doppler radar. you can see the red scan assyst set to move in on wednesday. as of now, it's still on its way and we still have some pretty good rain chances, with throughout the week. i'll have more on that and the timing and how much, coming up in a few minutes. mike gets us out there on the roads. any issues yet? >> a couple of smaller crashes. the one i'm concerned with is over in san francisco, getting off of the bay bridge at the fifth off-ramp at harrison, a crash that may affect folks as they're getting on to city streets. you should be out of your freeway speeds by then but a note for folks who may be thinking about work and the roadway, always concentrate on that. right now we're looking at the roadway on the east bay as well. ontra blems, the bay bridge toll costa county, there's alame da county and oakland hilovth bay wo

but first let )s go to meteorologist kari hall. kari -- where )s the storm now? thousands of people in the bay area will be hitting the road this holiday weekend. scattered coming in waves as we go throughout the day. and then partly to mostly cloudy skies for the evening. as we go into the time line looking at 1:00, not everyone will see the rain. there will be pockets of it moving through, and then a little bit less coverage as we go into tonight. still a slight chance of rain around sunrise tomorrow but most of the day on thanksgiving is looking dry. that's ahead of the second storm system moving in, bringing in more rain going into friday that looks to stay throughout most of the afternoon. so we'll talk about the rain totals and also the improved air quality around the bay area. it's looking so much better. i'll have a look at those numbers and what else is down the line that's coming up in the full microclimate forecast. >> sounds good. we'll check back with you. >>> thousands of people in the d bay area hittingge the roads th holiday weekend. here's a look

but first let )s go to meteorologist kari hall. kari -- where )s the storm now? let's go to meteorologist kari hall. where is the storm right now? >> we are just tracking light rain as you get ready to head out for your lunch hour or throughout the afternoon. a lot of the heavier rain we have this morning has since shifted to the south and is around monterey, continuing to move away from the area. this is a break before a heavier round of storm moves in. so we are going to see the time for you to get out there and time for you to get your yard cleaned up before this heavy rain arrives. we are tracking it all with stormranger with splotches of green here and there, indicating some lighter rain. as we zoom into the south bay, you can see as you head south to morgan hill to gilroy, you can see the rain comes down just a little bit heavier, but overall, we are looking at some light rain here. as we go through the time line, going into the afternoon, still going to see a chance of showers at any point, even to 3:00 or 4:00. then we see the rain returning to the bay ar

meteorologist kari hall, you said a windy start to the morning. >> yes. we begin with a red flag warning. that means a fire danger in elevations above 1,000 feet. it's been gusty there already and we may see gusts topping 60 miles an hour for any of these areas shaded in red. most of the populated areas and in the valleys, we won't see wind speeds that strong but be mindful that if you are in the hills, you have to be careful out there. as we start out, you're getting out the door, heading to the fruitvale b.a.r.t. station, it will be in the low 50s. another really nice day as we head into the upper 60s by noon. our high temperatures in oakland reached 75 degrees. it will be up to 78 in livermore and 81 in ukiah. my you said the flares are out in berkeley? >> they've been laid out. that's westbound getting to the bay bridge. this is eastbound. where it says eastshore freeway, there is actually the silhouette of university overcrossing, just to get you located. you see a vehicle moved over to the right shoulder. folks are able to easily exit. you have abou

we want to go to meteorologist kari hall. rain sprinkle across the bay area at times. it's continuing throughout the day. >> it will be off and on, coming in waves. at times we'll get breaks. as we get a look at storm ranger, our mobile doppler radar. let's get into this and track this storm as we're seeing some heavier downpours moving through northern sonoma county. this one has been producing some hail. i'm showing the purple colors there, showing where the hail has been falling and moving through. this is northern sonoma county in cloverdale, we're seeing heavy downpours there right now. it's going to make 101 wet north of santa rosa. santa rosa not seeing rain now, but it's going to move in in the next few minutes. it's really starting to taper off there as well as san francisco and down the peninsula. as we get a closer look at what's happening right now, we are seeing some heavy rain that's just moving out of los altos and on 101. as we take off the storm layer, you can't see it's coming down. this is what you're seein

kari hall continues our coverage here. d kari, it's not safe for anyone to be outside, especially for an extended period of time. >> right. this not just affects people with breathing problems, but everyone is affected by this. you feel the scratchy throat, you're coughing. you may have shortness of breath and eventually it could lead to some heart problems. so it's really hazardous to be out there. we see the levels over 200, up to 300. that's where it is the worst. and it's mostly been over san francisco. looking at the numbers and the spare the air alert day is issued when the levels are over 100. and this is the amount of particulate matter just floating in that wildfire smoke. it's unhealthy at 151 to 200 and very unhealthy at 200 or above. and we have even seen numbers over 300 here in the bay area. and you get closer to where the wildfire is, and it's over 500. so it is very dangerous out there. not only for the bay area, but also in parts of the central valley and then leading up to where the wildfire is actually oc

want to check in with meteorologist kari hall who is tracking the forecast. >> the rain is moving on through parts of the bay area but it's very light and not widespread so if you're about to head out the door, chances are you'll miss out on a lot of this. this is a look at storm ranger, our mobile doppler radar showing the red scan coming from san bruno mountain scanning lower in the atmosphere and giving us a good view of what's happening. as we go through the 7:00 hour, still very light and spotty rain, mostly cloudy skies across the bay area, as you make plans on what will be the best time to head out the door, any time before late morning and then we'll start to see some of the heavier rain moving along the coast and also in parts of the north bay. at noon it will be pouring good in parts of the north bay, while still fairly dry in the south bay. the south bay may not see that rain until this afternoon, especially in terms of some of the heavier downpours and by later on this evening, we'll have another break so that's good as a lot of people are getting off of work or maybe pla

kari hall and the weather team have been forecasting heavy rain for that spot today and tomorrow.s crews are also going out with giant vacuum trucks to suck out the storm drains and make sure that they are clear for when that water comes through. it can just kind of dissipate. here in the south bay, the sandbag stations are stocked for folks who need to divert rainwater. it doesn't take a lot of water to get into your house to do a lot of damage. talking about a little bit of water making a lot of mold in some of the low-lying spots. if you have a garage door, that's where you want to position some of those storm, the sandbags, if you need to get them. and again, it doesn't take a lot of water to create that ponding situation on the roadways that mike inouye has been talking about. we saw some wet roadways on our way down here. we were on highway 101, also 87, as we made our way to morgan hill. make sure you mind your speed. remember that the speed limit is only for perfect conditions. these are not perfect conditions, and we know some of our friends and neighbors don't drive as w

meteorologist kari hall is tracking that rain. and when it comes to the air quality, this rain is good news. >> excellent news. because it's been so long since we've had some rain. it's been since early october, and then we look outside, it's still smoky, but this is the clearest we've seen in two weeks in the bay area. it's still unhealthy to be out there as we measure how much of the things that are harmful to you, floating in the air, and in this wildfire smoke, very unhealthy from the north bay to the bay in the coast and inland east bay. it's unhealthy for sensitive groups. that means if you have asthma or bronchitis right now, it's not a good time to be outside. the spare the air alert ends tonight. as we look at stormranger, our mobile doppler radar showing we are not yet tracking any rain, but that storm system will be approaching. we can see the clouds and rain that will be approaching our coast, starting later on tonight and working its way inland from west to east. so looking at our hour by hour outlook, we should have

meteorologist kari hall has been tracking every moment of that. >> we're also getting a report right now of 2 1/2 hours delays for arrivals into sfo. >> i kept looking at this camera because i'm seeing some flashes of lightning there. and then when i look at storm ranger, the rain and lightning is just off the coast. it's getting ready to move closer to san francisco. let's get a look at that as we continue to track the waves of rain coming in. right now it's not raining. look at storm ranger and what we're picking up on as we move in motion. that's live lightning and we're starting to get quite a few lightning flashes there being detected, cloud-to-ground lightning moving closer to san francisco and marin county. once again, it's just off the coast there. we can even see it this morning as it approaches. as we get a closer look once again moving into the coast and parts of northern marin county and then we've also seen a lot of lightning in parts of the north bay and northern sonoma county, closer look at that one. we've also had small hail moving through healdsburg and also windsor

we check in with meteorologist kari hall. taking a look at the weather and what's going on here in the area, and the winds are a big issue. >> absolutely. we've had gusty winds and the winds are gradually starting to calm down. we have one more hour left of the red flag warning and that's for the inland hills, and we take a look at the smoke that lingers over san francisco this morning, coming in from northern california, and butte county. we are under a healthy air quality smoke advisory that continues until 10:00 this evening, and the south bay will see moderate air quality, at times the drifts of smoke coming by. we have the low humidity and the gusty winds. we'll continue to monitor that and our air quality and well above normal temperatures coming up in a few minutes. mike, you have an update on the crash on the peninsula. >> the glow is not fog and smoke, the bay bridge and your usual backup there, lighter overall for a friday but the problem here on the peninsula, brisbane, down to oyster point, there is a crash blocki

right now we want to go to meteorologist kari hall as she tracks the weather in our area. >> we're starting out with red flag warning and microclimate alert because we'll have a high fire danger from this morning through tomorrow morning. the red flag warning means elevations above 1,000 feet will have the potential of seeing any sparks or flames spread rapidly because the winds will be picking up. it's for all these areas shaded in red. the update from yesterday evening will be the santa cruz mountains is now included in that red flag warning. humidity is very low this morning as we start out in some spots down to the teens in napa. most of us are seeing those rain -- the relative humidity totals varied across the bay area. as we go throughout the day, our relative humidity will continue to drop as we go into the afternoon, it will be down to 8% to 9% in part of the north bay. that's the low humidity along with the gusty winds will be the reason why we have to be really careful with any sparks or flames. here's a look at our current wind speeds at 29 miles per hour. these are sustained win
