meteorologist kari hall has a look at what we can expect temperature-wise today. for us? >> yes, it's going to warm up quite a bit, and maybe you're going to be hitting the road and heading to tahoe this weekend. let's take a look at this forecast for palisades, where our high temperatures are headed for the 50s. so more of that snow will be melting. but we do still have 98 inches of snow in the upper parts of the mountain and we do have a lot of lifts and trails open for the weekend. let's bring it back home and celebrate the lunar new year, and in redwood city we are going to have some perfect weather. still warm as we start out with some low 60s and head for the low 70s during the middle of the day. very comfortable there. then if you're going to southern california, very warm temperatures. in fact, they're going to be talking about the fact that this may be one of the warmest super bowls they've ever had on record. then we go into the afternoon with some low 80s there. temperatures falling for the afternoon into the evening back into the lower 70s. here we're

meteorologist kari hall is tracking that. another day to pull out the thick old coat. >> yes, you do need layers, and even as you're preparing for the day, prepare for cold temperatures to start, and then still kind of cool today, but probably a lighter jacket needed. we are under freeze warnings and frost advisories up to 9:00 today, and we're going to have still the need to protect your plants, as well as your crops, as our temperatures stay below freezing for several hours. and we are looking at temperatures right now, fairfield a cold spot, 26 degrees. and it's 32 in morgan hill. we do see these very cold temperatures in much of the north bay. the heater is blasting right now, trying to keep up with the cold air that's happening outside. so if you're making plans today to head to half moon bay, along the coastline, temperatures start in the low 40s and it will reach into the 50s this afternoon. for the weekend, heads-up that we will have the risk of sneaker waves and rip currents. never turn your back to the ocean with th

meteorologist kari hall is tracking the forecast for the weekend. begin. >> right now. >> are you a little excited about the weekend? >> why not? >> i'm kidding. we're going to have some great weather this weekend, although we do have changes coming our way. we take a look at this beautiful clear shot of the golden gate bridge. let's talk about what's going on out there and start with the south bay and our high temperatures for this afternoon. we'll head for the upper 60s today, and it's going to be light wind, sunshine and the seven-day forecast is coming up in the bottom of the screen. we'll take a look at where we're headed today. 65 in oakland, 68 degrees in spots like concord. and we're going to see mid to upper 60s for the peninsula. half moon bay, up to about 60 degrees today. 64 for the mission district and downtown, and our north bay temperatures reaching into the upper 60s as well. we've had a few days of this kind of weather and it's still been very dry. we'll take a look at the regional view of what's happening on the satellite. once aga

time to get a look at that forecast with meteorologist kari hall. cold and the studio.ally, it's cold in my house, too, because the heater has to work really hard to keep up with these temperatures. but let's also talk about something you may have heard or if pelt in the past 30 minutes or so. there was a minor earthquake in the south county, so people in gilroy, san martin, morgan hill, as well as south san jose, may have heard or felt that earthquake. that was about 30 minutes ago. it was a 2.9, and on the an andreas fault, so we're watching to see if anything else happens. as we wake up and head out the door, temperatures are chilly, but we also have fog and low visibility in parts of the north bay, where we're down to about a quarter of a mile in napa and about a half of a mile in santa rosa. today our temperatures warm up quickly. we're headed for the low 70s in oakland, upper 60s in san francisco, a high of 72 today in san jose. livermore and freemont reaching 71, and 70 today in antioch. with all of this sunshine it's going to be a hazy look to the sky as well. i

meteorologist kari hall tracking the temperatures for us. are we going to see a warm-up at all? >> it will be a little warmer going into the next few afternoons, but the mornings will be very cold. and so we have to get used to temperatures like this, 28 degrees in santa rosa. we are freezing in our north bay valleys, as well as the inland east bay, and livermore it's 30, 30 in dublin and as you head down to san martin, it's 30 degrees. even where it's not freezing, temperatures are so close, you may have frost on the windshield. our temperatures in novato at 8:00 will be at about 37. you can see the trend heading to 47, then 56, and then we just stop. we're going to see sunshine. it's going to still be a cool day. but when we compare our temperatures to what the rest of the country is dealing with, check that out, below zero in casper and bismarck, minneapolis at 4 degrees below zero. but it's actually warmer in new york city compared to san jose. it's 60 degrees right now. this is crazy. so much of the country feeling this polar air rolling in, but we are still seeing the mild

want to check in with meteorologist kari hall right now.ally doesn't look like anything is going to change any time soon. >> no. we've seen this large area of high pressure which blocks any chance of rain and we also have la nina which steers things more south. the drought monitor has been updated. i want to take you back and look at the last year and how things change when you see it changing from the deep red color, the highest level of drought, the exceptional drought with the brain that we got in the late fall that helped us out and now we're in a severe drought with the update this morning did not change. we still have a severe drought. we're on day 34 of this stretch with dry weather and normally we do see dry weather during the myle of the water year, but that is usually about 20 days so we've gone beyond that and, still, no rain in the forecast. this is as our temperatures warm up, and we're headed for near record highs. we could reach into the low 80 in the north bay. yes, this is still early february, and we're talking about recor

let it go. >> ♪ let it go ♪ meteorologist kari hall has a look at the forecast.> i think some people were really shaking this morning. we had that report of an earthquake about an hour ago in the south county. it was a 2.9. and there may have been some people feeling it in south county and san jose. we're just seeing if any other activity happens on the san andreas fault. now as we get a look at what's going on with temperatures, cold start, but this is where we're headed. this is going to make you feel so much nicer, with our temperatures today headed for the low 70s in palo alto, freemont 71, 71 in oakland and 77 possible today in santa rosa. that will be a record. we're going to see if we get that warm in parts of the north bay. notice at the bottom of the screen with the seven-day forecast, the warm weather continues for a while longer. it's dry, we continue with sunshine, and also now, day 32 without a drop of rain. this high pressure is not budging. and it's actually going to give us more of a northerly wind over the next couple of days. increasing winds me

meteorologist kari hall is tracking temperatures. we said a little bit earlier much cooler this week. >> yeah, it's going to be nothing like we had over the weekend and you're going to need a heavier jacket for today. big drop init's going to be win there. this week we will continue with sunny and more comfortable weather, but we're also watching for distant rain chances, maybe toward the end of the month. we are starting out with some dense fog as we head out the door this monday morning. visibility down to a half of a mile in santa rosa, but we're seeing low clouds drifting around. watch out for that for your morning commute. we're going to be watching dropping temperatures and i'll talk about that coming up in a few minutes. mike, that fog may impact the morning commute. >> it will. we got an advisory from chp and an advisory in the north bay, a crash blocking all lanes both directions of highway 160 from the antioch bridge through the north bay. the antioch side is all right, but just under a mile north of the bridge there is a c

. >> let's start with kari hall. so is it most windy in a certain spot? san francisco, perhaps? >> it could be san francisco, along the bay as well as the hills and the mountains. these are the areas we've been watching for those higher wind gusts. let's take a look at these numbers and what i've been picking up on. in the healdsburg hills, it is at 56 miles an hour. mount diablo at 51, and up to 53 in the santa cruz mountains. 32 in san francisco where we see this flag waving. so that's not even the highest wind gust, even though it probably feels like it could just blow you right over. the wind advisory continues through midnight tonight for all these areas shaded in yellow. the areas in red, that's where we have a high wind warning. that's a step up from a wind advisory. this continues until midnight. we are looking for the potential of a high fire danger. due to the lack of rainfall we've had recently, and the critically low humidity that we're seeing. low humidity numbers especially in the south bay and some of the valleys dipping into the teens so we will have to continue

meteorologist kari hall has been tracking what we can expect from the forecast today. how is it shaping up? >> it's going to be a little warmer this afternoon. we had a break from the warm weather with a cooldown for the start of the week and now we're trending upward. let's take a live look outside in walnut creek. all clear. we haven't had any issues with fog and the temperature right now at 42 degrees here. we will see our temperatures in the mid-40s by about sunrise and then you can see our upper 50s we'll have at 10:00, 62 degrees at 11:00. we to continue to warm up more from there, which will be an improvement over yesterday. reaching 68 in morgan hil. check out the seven-day forecast that's up at the bottom of the screen. east bay highs reaching 69 in danville and in oakland 66 degrees, mid-60s, in daly city 62. the mission district heading up to 65 degrees and our north bay temperatures up to 70 in sonoma and santa rosa, napa today reaching 68 degrees. so it will feel nicer by the afternoon and there may be more people heading to the coastline. heads up if ther

meteorologist kari hall has been tracking there. kari, one thing we're dealing with the cold temperatures but still not getting as much rain as we really need. >> yeah. we just got the drought monitor update just a few minutes ago. wanted to show you what it looked like last week with much of california in this orange which is severe drought. only very little bit was in that extreme drought category where we saw red. now we've gone from 1% of california in the extreme drought to now 5% of the state in the extreme drourkts and that includes parts of our north bay where we've gone weeks without any significant rainfall. the little bit of rain that we had recently really didn't help and take a look at the changes you can see there. a little bit more red indicating that we've flipped farther into this drought as we take a look at parts of coastal sonoma county and mendecino county. we're in that severe drought category which means more water restriction. this comes as the temperatures are dripping down to record lows. seeing that down to
