meteorologist kari hall of course has been tracking that for us and kari, the heat continues. >> yeah, we talk about how dry the vegetation is. you don't need the weather conditions because just one little spark could ignite a hillside on fire and today we do combine our dry conditions with high heat and a heat advisory in effect for all of these areas shaded in orange as we get a closer look from the north bay down to the east bay as well as a lot of our hills that are included in that heat advisory. you want to make sure that between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. during the hottest hours of the day, you're drinking a lot more water, you're reducing the outdoor activities and also looking for the signs of heat-related illness. as we start out today, it's going to be kind of hazy out there, and unhealthy air quality. it is a spare the air alert day especially for the east bay and south bay. you may need to also limit your outdoor exposure to some of the smoke that's going to be drifting in from some of the fires. today our temperatures head for 97 in santa rosa, 105 in fairfie

kari hall is tracking the heat that we're talking about. it two years ago was the monsoon moisture that came in. we know it's been a very active season. they've had a lot of flooding and occasionally, the moisture and humidity has been surging into southern california and the bay area. we'll have another chance of that as we go toward wednesday and thursday. so the green indicates where there is higher amounts of that moisture moving in. as we go toward wednesday, we can see it turning green, even a deep plume of moisture there that may not have a lot of rain. it dries out before hitting the ground. if we do see it happening on wednesday evening, there will be the chance of lightning that could unfortunately spark new fires. even one lightning strike is not good but there will be a chance just to the east of us. we'll be monitoring that. right now we're dealing with the heat as we get ready for the heat advisory that will be in effect for all the areas shaded in orange. this goes into effect starting at 11:00. we are also dealing with tempe

meteorologist kari hall has a closer look at what we can expect. on friday we have music in the scare in redwood city. it's going to be a great weekend for that. as you're getting set up, it will be in the mid 70s. at the time the music starts, it will be about 75 degrees. i don't know if it gets more perfect than that. it's going to be a really nice evening. we have the festival india day parade. both saturday and sunday, we're taking a look at saturday's forecast. it's going to reach up to 80 degrees in the middle of the afternoon. a nice breeze, but bright and sunny all through out the day. then checking out sonoma valley where the temperatures will be heating up. starting out with a high of 92 degrees on friday. if you're there throughout the weekend, it's going to just get a little bit cooler heading toward the end of the weekend with the morning starts in the mid 50s. then checking out santa cruz this weekend with friday's high temperature reaching 76. there will be more clouds than fog for the rest of the weekend. pooebs sunshine keeping the

let's turn to meteorologist kari hall tracking what we can expect today. kari, back to school for a lot of people. >> we have kids going back in burlingame today. it's going to be a nice but cloudy start to the morning. temperatures in the upper 50s. look at the pickup forecast. it's going to be partly cloudy and a perfect 70 degrees. make sure you smile for those first-day-of-school pictures. in san jose, 84 degrees for a high temperature, cooling down for a lot of the interior valleys dealing with 90s. we'll see some low 80s in parts of the north bay. it still will be pretty warm for concord and livermore. morgan hill in the upper 80s today while palo alto will see a high of 80 degrees. mike, you've been watching a couple of slow spots on the road, especially in the east bay? >> a tough drive in oakland the last few days, folks who have driven over past the coliseum. it's been dragging in the northbound direction for the morning commute. right now it's very calm. we had an earlier crash that cleared. we'll track the build as things are moving nicely. the

meteorologistical kari hall, what is going on out there? >> our microclimates are causing a big range in temperatures from the coastal areas to the inland valleys. it's all about where you are and where you're headed, so take a live look outside in san jose, we'll start out once again with some clouds and as we look at our high temperatures for this afternoon, 88 degrees in san jose, basically matching where we were yesterday. san francisco reaching about 70 degrees, napa 90 and also 90 in martinez with concord reaching 95 degrees. you can see thend mild near the coastline and in san francisco. we'll see this pattern continue and we'll talk about a slight cooldown for the weekend. mike, you're tracking that serious crash in oakland. >> that's right, kari. overall, the east bay maps look like they're in the green zone for the speeds. we are, however, looking down toward highway 13, there's a deadly crash, a car went off the roadway and crew are addressing that crash. the crew is what's blocking a slow lane and two lanes southbound for the wa

. >>> meteorologist kari hall joins me now. we got an update on the drought monitor yesterday. it's not looking very good. >> it's not looking good not only here but throughout the region. this is the worst drought we've had in 1,200 years. some of that is in central california where we do a lot of farming as well as where a lot of our reservoirs are. as we look at our current reservoir levels across the state, these number are extremely low. most of them only about a quarter of capacity, and this is where we're getting that water to basically take care of ourselves and water our lawns and it's extremely low. here we are in august, and we still have to make it past october or november before we really start to see some rain in here, so absolutely every single drop of water helps in that conservation effort. as we take a look at how hot it's going to be in some of those inland areas, that causes those reservoirs to evaporate more quickly, headed for the mid-90s in livermore and san martin, 97 in fairfield and still in the 90s and even upper 90s for santa rosa today. we're lookin
