. >>> and i'm kristen sze. breaking news. we've been following a search for two carjackers, in an oakland neighborhood. amy hollyfield is live at a police chance post. is there a shelter in place order? >> reporter: at this point police haven't mentioned that. a lot of people are asleep now. if they do wake up and peek outside they are going to see a lot of police activity. we just got briefed by an officer. they say at least one maybe two armed men took off running into this neighborhood officers had an -- had him in their line of sight and chased him for a while, because it is dark they decided to pull back, call the s.w.a.t. team. this is happening in a neighborhood off high street these guys are wanted for a carjacking. police believe there were three or four men that may have been involved. at this point they think they are looking for one or two. the crime happened 1:30 in the morning. a couple had pull up in front of a home and that's when the thieves made their move. >> they pulled up to the house seems like the femal

thanks for waking up with us i'm kristen sze. >>> i'm eric thomas. a 25-year-old san jose man is on life support after spending seven days lost in the woods following a traffic accident. this morning his family wants to know why he wasn't found earler? amy hollyfield is live at san jose regional medical center. that's one of many questions. >> reporter: his sister tells us she has a lot of questions. she says this has been a nightmare. she says he is not doing well but he's on life support. 25-year-old michael sanchez, jr. crashed his truck last week. his family did not know that. he was found two days ago in a wooded area near the crash scene off highway 101 near hellyer avenue. there was a delay because a witness told the chp she saw a man walk away from the crash site, so officers looked for him for 45 minutes. when they didn't find anyone, they gave up. >> we had a witness there, they witnessed the collision and also witnessed a person exiting the vehicle and walking away from the scene. so, we're operating under the assumptions this person is mo

. >>> and i'm kristen sze. a 2-year-old girl is fighting to recover from a vicious pit bull attack. investigators trying to determine why her family pet turned on her. terry mcsweeney is live in the newsroom with the latest. >> reporter: the girl is at children's hospital oakland and she is going to live but there's a long road to recovery for the 2-year-old letty mcquay of concord she was bitten by the family dog in the face, head and leg. take a look at the victim, little girl was pored to the hospital by helicopter. -- was transported to the hospital by helicopter. we have pictures of the annal that -- of the animal that mauled her. taking that dog to their truck some neighbors say they never saw any aggressive behavior from that dog. >> i saw the girl was running with the baby in her hands and kind of crying. just everyone trying to get the baby. >> reporter: neighbors tell us john mcquay -- parents could face criminal chargeses if the animal had a history of attacks that does not appear to be the case. the animal is under rabies quarantine. a reliable source reports the animal

thanks for joining us i'm kristen sze. >>> i'm eric thomas. we have breaking news. police sealed off an area around an industrial complex in menlo park while crews investigate a hazardous materials incident. terry mcsweeney is live near the scene where they got a briefing. what is the latest? >> reporter: kind of a confusing situation edison technology park in menlo park. behind me the hazardous material team folks in the white suits, firefighters as well. we are being kept 200 feet from what they are calling the hot zone. they have red tape there where this began 2:30 this morning. deputies routine patrol driving along -- let's let the depth spoeblgs man take it from there. >>> what happened is our deputies went out on a suspicious vehicle, worked that up with a couple of guys in the vehicle from there they smelled a strong chemical smell. immediately backed out. called in fire, fire came in and set up a haz-mat. that's what fire is working now. >> reporter: what they are trying to figure out is what was going on at that pick-up truck. 2:30 in the morning, a couple

. >>> and i'm kristen sze. in oakland a house fire sending flames shoot into the air. katie marzullo joins live from martin luther king way. how is the firefighting effort going? >> reporter: pretty dramatic. i'm going to get out of way so you can watch for yourself. looks like they are getting a handle on it compared to when we got on the scene not more than five minutes ago flames were bright orange shooting out of the second story of this home. now they have enough water on it much more smoke than flame from our advantage point. crews on the scene fighting the fire. you can see from a hose on the ladder truck there are firefighters on the ground shooting water up at the house and firefighters on the roof next door keeping an eye over there i believe i saw them with hoses at one point. frances mentioned the area 29th and martin luther king as we drove in the smoke was heavy over the 980 freeway. not a lot of cars on the road at this hour, which is good. you will notice the smoke. the spokesperson for the fire department too busy to talk . i did learn a few things fro

. >>> and i'm kristen sze in just three hours the santa clara county sheriff and saor's family will hold a news conference after deputies arrested a man for murder in the disappearance. terry mcsweeney is live at -- in san jose. >> reporter: the kidnapping and murder charges against this man put an end to any hope of a miracle conclusion to the disappearance of 15-year-old sierra lamar. take a look at the man sheriff's investigators say is the one who kidnapped and murdered sierra lamar this is 21-year-old antolin garcia-torres of morgan hill arrested last evening in morgan hill at a grocery store charged with kidnapping and mur. investigators are not releasing a -- a lot of investigation as -- a lot of information as to what took them to him. they are confident he is the person right now they are saying he's the only suspect in the kidnapping and murder of 15-year-old . she disappeared march 16th, her body has yet to be found. the key piece of evidence the volkswagen jetta found earlier this month. garcia-torres is the owner of that. again, no body found and the public is being asked to

. >>> and i'm kristen sze -- >>> breaking news story manhunt shots fired suspect clinging to life and officer injured this morning vallejo police investigating second shooting involving an officer since last week. amy hollyfield is live at the scene at wilson anfar gut avenues. >> reporter: -- wilson and farragut avenues. >> reporter: they have their forensic lab, officers are still gathering evidence this is in the parking lot of an apartment complex in vallejo. police are not believing us on what happened. what we have is a witness account and he says it started at about 11:30 last night, police were chasing someone who was suspected of stealing a car. then the officers eventually ended up shooting him. we are waiting for police to confirm these detail. then in an odd twist the k-9 officer bit one of the officers. the dog did. witnesses say that officer was taken to the hospital. this all happened at an apartment complex on wilson avenue and farragut avenue in vallejo. we hope to get a briefing this morning. they say around daybreak this is the second officer-involved shooting in le

just about 6:00, thank you for joining us i'm kristen sze. >>> i'm eric thomas. we are following two breaking news situations both in the east bay. >> first live to katie marzullo who has been at the scene of an oakland house fire all morning. >> reporter: the first fire crew is just going inside this burned out house. you can see behind us one firefighter going up the stairs there are some on the third floor of this house just being able to get in after more than an hour long firefighter. this home was abandoned which meant a lot of ply -- plywood inside which meant the fire was burning big and hot you can see from this video we shot when we got on the scene flames shooting out of that third story. the third story was an attic space some had been converted into a living space the chief tells me they believe the fire started on the second or third floor. turns out, even though the house was abandoned there was a man in the basement when the fire broke out he's okay he was able to get out on his own without being injured which is surprising because the battalion c
