laura garcia has the day off. >> i'm marcus washington. a reminder, you can watch us live on roku, amazon fire, apple tv, and online. well, now to that develop story that we have for you in vallejo. this is where students this morning are back in the classroom after a shooting just outside of campus that injured a popular football coach. it happened during a chaotic altercation yesterday caught on video. nbc bay area's bob redell is there. what are the students who are attending today -- what has it been like for them this morning? >> reporter: many did not show up. i just spoke up with vallejo unified and they tell us there's about 1,280 kids and this morning roughly 350 of them stayed home because of the shooting that took place pretty much where i'm standing just outside the entrance to the school here across the street in front of the campus. as you can see, vallejo police did drive by the school several times this morning as parents dropped off their kids. the district says they will have more staff patrolling the campus and they have

. >> and i'm laura garcia. breaking news in the south bay where firefighters are at the scene of an early morning fire. it's happening at a truck yard in san jose. look how large it is. it started about 1:00 a.m. on archer street. firefighters say several trucks, some empty buildings have burned as well. it's not clear how it started. one person is being treated for possible burn injuries as we continue to get updates this morning we'll bring you the very latest on air and online. >> the temperatures we've been dealing with, vianey, have been making it easy for firefighters compared to the wildfires. >> that low-pressure system that brought rain the past couple of days in through last weekend also helped ease some of the concerns because it brought a lot of moisture. now heading into the weekend the concern will be just that, the lack of moisture and just how dry we're going to be. it is really clear. we're not seeing it inland. 59 degrees. by 11:00, 12:00 we'll be in the 70s. we're talking 80s and, yes, even 9

i'm laura garcia. a lot to get to. we'll have a look at the morning commute. first a look at the forecast for today. >> looks good. it looks like yesterday. so we're in a nice, steady weather pattern. a live look outside in san rafael and we are starting out with clouds but no issues with fog as you're driving in to work this morning. a breezy wind and is now 57 degrees. we will cool off before sun rise and the rest of the day is looking very pleasant. we're headed for 82 in novato and 73 in san mateo. dublin heads for 82 degrees. as we go into the day tomorrow it's basically more of the same. we continue with cool coastal temperatures and warm valley heat. mike, you are seeing more slowing on the east shore freeway. >>> this is because of that crash west 80. your commute direction at san pablo dam road, just shy of that on over, take richmond san pabl. it's slower on city streets because of the signals. be careful if you choose that path. you can just stick it out. they should clear the crash shortly. there's major damage to the vehicle, so that's my concern.

laura garcia has the day off. we will check in mike has been tracking a deldly crash. more details now and itenforcem been involved. >>> it sounds like a pursuit may have led up to the crash with the sheriff's department in half moon bay and came across the san mateo bridge and eastbound to hayward where you see on the left side traffic stopped there. it is flowing. only one eastbound lane is open right here. the activity by substation seven is jamming up traffic on the last portion approaching the toll plaza. westbound, that commute is still moving smoothly. you will see westbound your commute is just fine. eastbound it is jamming up off the high rise. the dumbarton bridge is a good alternate for you. come over to this area off 280 and to the san mateo bridge. we don't have an eta. traffic is looking pretty smooth. the green highlighting shows you where it might be damp and there may still be activity. >> we did have showers move in early and and still have plenty of that left on radar. this will be the last of the lingering storm system. a couple of showers pushing t

i'm laura garcia. marcus is off this morning. we have team coverage on what everyone is talking about, the heat wave. kris sanchez is tracking the latest outages across the bay. let's start with a look at the forecast itself with meteorologist kari hall tracking what we can expect. another hot one ahead. >> yes, unfortunately. yesterday was pretty hot. today the temperatures go up a few more degrees. let's talk about what to expect as we're headed for triple-digit temperatures, over 110 once again, even hotter than yesterday. tomorrow will be the last day we'll see highs over 100 degrees. for the weekend, looking at tropical moisture coming in and possibly some storms. let's look at the highs with san francisco reaching into the 80s. we could be as hot as 111 today in santa rosa and up to 114 in brentwood. san jose reaching 105. palo alto up to 100 degrees while oakland will reach into the mid 90s. all the dangerous heat continues and we're also going to continue to monitor for that potential of heat exhaustion, heat stroke. thes

laura garcia has the day off. we're bringing all the color. we showed up this morning, i hope you wore your sunglasses. >> we still have some showers on the radar. you got some? >> a couple drops. >> you are not imagining it. we have plenty of activity, instability on the radar. you can see satellite radar popping up, even thunderstorm activity just off the coast. you could see it right here if i kind of zoom this in closer using our mobile doppler radar storm ranger you can see the shower activity pushing through santa rosa, petaluma, san rafael. if i zoom further south you can see the red scan. now there is a possibility we could see some of those thunderstorms move inland and we could get an isolated pocket or two of heavy downpours at times especially around areas in the coastline. as far as our temperatures go, we'll start out in the 60s. we'll bump up into the 70s by the afternoon that will leave us with a very humid mix of sun and clouds for this evening. let's get a check of the traffic with mike. >> vianey, pretty calm right now. left
