jamie leary has been following the latest for us. >> reporter: behind me, doors still boarded up here at the salon behind me. i've had to check the number several times myself to be sure the reports are right. police are investigating a series of at least nine burglaries, overnight smash and grabs at businesses along a six- block stretch of south broadway between yale and floyd. these happened sunday morning police are reviewing surveillance video released, and you can see around 1:23 a.m. the suspect throws a rock through the door of the bakery here, busting out the glass. once inside, they looked around and went to the cash register, pocketed some cash, then left the bakery and went to the next store. in an effort to identify the suspect, police are looking through that surveillance video. i've reached out to police this morning to see if there is any new information and they are still looking for that it's early in the investigation and they don't have a suspect description, and they have not ruled out the connection between these burglaries. no suspect description at this time but

jamie leary is tracking this story for us this morning. >> reporter: good morning, alan. there are ten men charged in connection with this case, two school employees included. one of them was a teacher at denver's warren village. he'll appear here this afternoon before a judge. warren village is a self- for low income families. on site. that man, david hocker, was hired as an elementary schoolteacher for that early learning center. the other man, an employee for the warehouse district, he had no contact with children. hocker allegedly answered the ad set up by state patrol to have sex with an 11 and 14-year- old girl and paid an undercover officer $300 and was immediately arrested. the president and ceo at the learning center said prior to his arrest, everybody thought he was doing a great job. there were 106 children where he worked. >> he was working with children about 5 to 8 years old, and seemed to be doing a really great job. so very shocking to hear this news. >> reporter: three of the ten men charged in this case appeared yesterday in court. hocker and the second

that's where jamie leary is live this morning. let's get right to her. >> reporter: good morning, britt and alan. you can see smoke pouring out of the unit but fire crews are rolling up those water lines, so it looks like they are packing up. this was called in around 2:30 a.m., crews arriving on the defensive mode. they said it took them about 10 minutes to determine this fire was so bad they needed to go on the offense immediately. we spoke with officials and neighbors about what happened then arrived on the scene. >> crews made an initial attack on the exterior of the home then went inside. they found two victims. one was transported. one was a male and one was a female. >> woke up to the fire department next door and seeing the neighbor's house smoldering. all i seen was the roof smoldering, sort of scary because our house is really close to it. the fire department got here really fast. >> reporter: you heard from the neighbor who said he credits the fire department for their quick work. it didn't take them long to knock that

jamie leary is tracking that for us this morning. >> reporter: that teen is back in front of a judge again, and this morning's hearing has the the informs defense team for 16- year-old brook higgins will try and get her bond lowered. their goal is to get her back home. the last time we saw higgins, she was assigned a new defense team, new counsel. we asked the new and former defense attorneys why they made the change. because of attorney-client privilege, they both declined to comment. many items on the agenda were postponed, including a hearing that could ultimately get her case transferred back to juvenile court. but we may hear more about that today as well. last december sienna johnson and higgins were arrested after somebody texted a tipline. the two 16-year-olds allegedly had plans to kill students and higgins faces conspiracy to commit first-degree charges and they both remain in custody on $1 million bond. the goal today for higgins is to get that bond lowered and get her back home. news. >>> the search is on for a bank robber who targeted the champion bank in parker yesterda
