. >> i am marcus washington. >>> we want to get to our top story today. today's big warm-up. what can we expect today, kari? >> starting out nice and cool around the bay area, but we will see temperatures that warming up over the next few hours. the heat advisory begins at 11:00 this morning, and some of the areas were under the heat advisory yesterday. this goes until 11:00 p.m., and our inland areas are headed for the upper 80s and low 90s. watch out for the potential for setting new records today, with santa rosa expected to hit 95 degrees today, and that's the record high set back just a couple years ago, or just last year. in san francisco, we're expecting to reach 90 degrees today. that would break a record that was set in 1913. in oakland as well as livermore, san josÉ will reach in the low 90s which would be a new record high temperature. let's get a look at all of our microclimates and what to expect with temperatures hitting 99 in gilroy today. hot temperatures in the south county, and antioch reaching 97 degrees, and 92 in oakland and 92 in san mateo. san francisco

marcus washington is off. we'll start with a look at the forecast. meteorologist kari hall is tracking what we can expect. >> welcome back. >> thank you. it's going to really heat up over these next few days. it's going to be, like, starting out nice and cool, and then going towards 90s by the middle of the week. but we do see a system dropping in that's going to bring us a chance of showers for parts of the north bay as you head out into this afternoon. so as we take it hour-by-hour, we do see that chance of rain around ukiah, clear lake, parts of northern sonoma county, in santa rosa we could see that at 5:00 this evening. we go throughout much of the day with dry conditions. clouds linger and we're going to have a mostly cloudy and cool day, as our highs reach into the mid to upper 70s. by tomorrow we see temperatures starting to heat up just a few degrees, but then by wednesday we're talking about 90s in the inland valleys. so you're going to have another blast of summer. we'll talk more about that in a few minutes. >>> mike, you're saying it's a

. >> i'm marcus washington. we're going to get a look at the commute with mike in just a bit. first, let's start with the forecast. the warm-up is coming. >> yes, we've been talking about it all week. it really starts to feel a lot warmer this afternoon, and we're a little bit milder this morning compared to yesterday morning. so it's a clear start, as we take a live look outside in san jose. temperature-wise, yesterday we were in the mid-40s at this time in parts of the north bay, so it's just a little warmer. still, a cool start. the warmest temperature i'm seeing is hayward, now at 67 degrees. but mostly mid-50s, as well as low 60s, for many of our microclimates. take a look at our highs this afternoon. it's going to reach into the upper 80s, pretty widespread 80s here across the map, with san jose reaching 88 degrees, and some low 90s as well for concord, fairfield, and santa rosa headed for 91 degrees. it gets hotter tomorrow. take a look at morgan hill and san martin, in the mid-90s for tomorrow afternoon, and we're going to reach the peak of the heat on friday. so we'll

. >> i'm marcus washington. we want to start with breaking news this morning, new details overnight in an accident involving a self-driving cruise taxi in san francisco. a woman pedestrian suffering life-threatening injuries. >> it happened late last night at 5th and market near the powell street b.a.r.t. station. at the time police suggested a second car may be involved. overnight cruise representatives showed our investigative unit the video, and he tells us the video appears to confirm the claim from cruise that its car did not strike the victim initially, and it was actually another car that did, a black sedan, which then left the scene. that video has not been released. police last night would not confirm if the second car was found, but claims its car had started a hard brake before making impact. our thom jensen is working to find out more. stay with us. he'll have a live report at 5:30. if you're on the go, you can stream us online at nbcbayarea.com or on our app wherever you stream. >>> now to the east

. >> i am marcus washington. we are tracking the hot weather out there, and it could eventually -- well, kari, is this a heat wave or not? >> yeah, a heat wave is how long it lasts and above average temperatures for two or more days, that's a heat wave. we are seeing that. as we head into the next couple of days, it will heat up in the afternoons and the mornings are nice and mild and that's when we get a break out there. san josÉ starting out in the upper 70s at 10:00. we're already starting to warm up by late morning. then as we go through the day, look at that, we will be in the mid-90s, reaching 95 degrees this afternoon. a lot of mid-50s year across the bay area, and even heating up in san francisco. much of the peninsula in the 90s today. this is not even the peak of the heat. it gets hotter for tomorrow, especially with san martin hitting 100 degrees, and upper 90s in concord, fairfield and 99 in los gatos. we will talk more about the impacts in a couple minutes. >>> mike, you already have some impacts in

. >> i am marcus washington. >>> the heat across the bay area, and our coverage kicks off with meteorologist, kari hall. some places expected to reach record highs today? >> yeah, we have a cool start to our morning but we are right now feeling low 50s in parts of the north bay. as we take a look at where we are beginning, it's 64 in san josÉ, but there's still already a wide range in temperatures. hayward right now, we are seeing a temperature right now at 70 degrees. it's warmer in some spots. the heat advisory begins at 11:00 a.m., and continues until 11:00 p.m. for all of the areas shaded in orange. we are expecting those high temperatures to reach into the upper 80s and low 90s. we may be setting up records for this afternoon with santa rosa, the expected high up to 95, and the record is also 95 degrees. that was set just last year. 90 degrees is the record for san francisco, and i think we will be very close. in oakland, livermore and san josÉ, we're headed for the low 90s, which would break or tie the old record high temperature. now, let's head to today in the bay's kris sanchez live

i'm laura garcia. >> i'm marcus washington. we want to get right to the breaking news, the out-of-control wildfire burning right now in southern california. reporter macy jenkins is with our l.a. sister station on the ground near the fire lines. >> 2,200 acres burned and zero percent contained. take a look behind me. this is what we are seeing. we saw firefighters pull up to this property just behind us just about ten minutes ago. the flames burning in certain spots just behind the trees, and then, of course, right up on the mountaintop. when we were here last night, we could see fire glowing in multiple places. some of that fire still going in hot spots. i'll have you walk with me this way. you can see firefighters from cal fire, riverside county and other agencies working together to try to figure out the best plan in getting this thing put out. the fire started yesterday, about 12:40 p.m., and firefighters are still trying to figure out how it began. now, at one point the fire was being fueled by santa ana winds. those winds

i'm laura garcia. >> i'm marcus washington. to get to breaking news this morning, hurricane otis has made landfall in mexico. here is a live look along acapulco coast near where the storm made the direct hit overnight. yesterday at this time, otis was just a tropical storm. when it made landfall as a category 4, winds were up to 165 miles per hour, and now it's been downgraded to a category 2. authorities yesterday urgently warning people there to hunker down and shelter in place. >> well, meteorologist kari hall joins us now. what's really amazing, in just 24 hours this storm just grew so quickly, bring us up to speed on the path. it's intense. >>s intense, and we saw this large storm move over a very populated area in acapulco, mexico. so we are seeing a big impact because of that, as it is quickly moving inland. it just intensified so quickly that people didn't have a chance to get out of the way of this hurricane as it moved inland. now it is a category 2. that's still bringing wind speeds of 110 miles per hour, as it moves

i'm marcus washington. >> i'm laura garcia. let's get right to that breaking news that we're covering in contra costa county, a big rig driver dead, after a crash at the richmond-san rafael bridge. >> we have team coverage this morning, starting with "today in the bay"'s bob redell. he's live there at the toll plaza. bob, what kind of impact are we talking about here traffic-wise? >> reporter: now that we're in the 6:00 hour, we're definitely starting to see some slowing here at the richmond-san rafael bridge. this is the westbound direction of 580 at the toll plaza. only three lanes are open right now. the other four lanes are closed because workers are trying to remove that gravel hauler behind that semi. you can see the wreckers there. that's the hauler that crashed overnight into one of the toll booths. they're trying to remove that. until that's removed, those four lanes will be shut down. you are going to have the slowing at the toll plaza. the crash happened around 10:00 last night. it was a solo vehicle. only involved t

i'll marcus washington. >> i'm getting hot just thinking about it. i'm laura garcia. we're experiencing a heat wave in october. kari has a look at those temperatures. >> at least we do have a cool start, and this morning we are going to see temperatures going from upper 50s and low 60s, to the 80s and 90s. let's get a look at walnut creek and what to expect today. it's going to be nice and sunny, and 60 degrees for the morning. if you do have some outdoor activities, it may be a little taxing if you're doing it in the heat of the day. try to get it done early. we're at 81 degrees at lunchtime and reaching the upper 80s by the middle of the day, and when we take a look at where we're headed and what's average for this time of year, santa rosa usually hits a high of 80 degrees today. we're expecting it to reach 91. also, 91 in concord, a lot of these numbers are at least 10 or 11 degrees hotter than what we usually see. this is not even going to be the hottest day of the week. we're seeing temperatures ramp up today, headed for 88 degrees in san jose, and oakland today
