everybody talks about mccarthy, narrow margin, mccarthy can get stuff done, but mccarthy knows his members, and i'm not saying all of the members like him, but the other members recognize the need for republican unity to get stuff done. and nobody talks on the other side, you never hear this, oh, chuck schumer, he has a narrow majority, he has only 50 seats. what happens if he loses one of his members. in the senate it is a tougher job. you need those 60 votes, which gives mcconnell more of a say on things. i just don't think that the washington conversation we see in the mainstream media is enough about the challenges that schumer has. if mccarthy does his job and gets 13 appropriations bills passed i think that put schumer in a tough spot, because he has a lot of members who are not going to want to vote for any kind of spending reductions or anything that is not a major spending increase. i think schumer is facing a real challenge, and i think that the reason we talk about shutdowns and action-forcing events is that nobody in the abstract wants to compromise. you come to washington, you

i want to commend speaker mccarthy. you know, he and i and our teams, we were able to get along and get things done. we were straightforward with one another, honest, respectful with one another. both sides operated in good faith. both sides kept their word. i also want to commend other congressional leaders, house minority leader jefferies, senate majority leader schumer, senate minority leader mcconnell. they acted responsibly and put the good of the country ahead of politics. a final vote in both chambers was overwhelming. far more bipartisan than anyone thought was possible. so i want to thank the members of the congress who voted to pass this agreement, which i'm going to sign tomorrow to become the law. here's hot the deal does. first, it cuts spending. over the next ten years, the deficit will be cut by more than $1 trillion. that will be on top of the record $1.7 trillion, $1.7 trillion i already cut the deficit in my first two years in office. and it's clear, we're all in a much more fiscally responsible course

this played out according to speaker mccarthy's terms. if you kind of look at the details of what happened, i think the president and his advisers did a good job within the framework that mccarthy sent. the level of spending cuts. speaker mccarthy wanted $4 trillion in vending cuts, it is going to be closer to $1.5 trillion. speaker mccarthy wanted spending tax rate decade, it is only for two years. speaker mccarthy wanted a broader, more bite to the work requirement than there actually will be. speaker mccarthy set the terms, set the kind of parameters of this deal, and really kind of ran the table on the white house. then, when those parameters are set in place, the white house to the good job negotiating the particulars. i think that there are elements of this that both the speaker and the president can point to as political victories, but i think that the big winner here is speaker mccarthy. now, that's the politics. the real winner is the american economy, the american taxpayer in the u.s.'s standing as a global and political economi
