abc 7 news reporter lyanne melendez is live by the water with the story. >> reporter: you know, they just don't want to leave our area, and i don't blame them, dan. now, i spotted them at about 4:00 this afternoon and really nice. it was actually spectacular right behind me. now, about 3:00 this afternoon we spotted 3 three humpback whales at baker beach. they were spouting and feeding. proof of that were all of the marine birds around them, and that's exactly why they're here, attracted by a large number of anchovies that are going in and out of the bay. they prefer, of course, krill but they are found in colder, deeper waters. when a humpback finds a good source of food, they stick with it for a while. and when they run out, they quickly leave the area. and that -- >> they hunt around in the areas and if they don't find something in a certain amount of time they leave. these whales will probably stick around until they don't find anything. >> reporter: now, hopefully for them that will be soon. while people love -- >> we've been trying to keep the story somewhat quiet just to give
