sabrina: elias: well let's get a quick check of the weather with meterologist sam schreier. sam/ weather adlib: we are looking at a mostly sunny and cold day with windy conditions lasting through the evening. our snow has stopped from last night leaving most of central iowa with about 1 to 1.5 inches, but even that little amount has left some roads in poor shape. the sun will be out today so even though our highs will be in the low 20s we may still melt a bit of that snow off some of the side walks. tonight we'll be mostly clear with very deep and arctic air slamming down over the metro. our lows tonight should bottom out near -3 degrees with wind chills below -10 degrees across the metro and likely colder to the north. we're going to see clouds return saturday only snow is still looking fairly likely saturday night into valentines day morning, however the track of the snow may have shifted east a bit. the metro now looks to get roughly 1 to 2 inches and eastern iowa has a better chance of seeing 2 to 4 inches. next week will start a bit cooler with highs in the 30s but we ar

elias: we're back with meterologist sam schreier... sam: (sam adlibs) sam: sam: weather adlib: the first major snow storm and blizzard is finally upon us and we are definitely in for a lot of snow and dangerous driving conditions. light snow in the very early morning hours will turn in to very heavy snow through the morning commute and into the early afternoon hours, especially in west and there will be a large amount of wind keeping visibility low and causing large drifting especially across less traveled country roads. during the morning hours des moines will see mostly snow but we will be mixing that snow with sleet at times especially on the south side of the city with the heaviest snow falling north of the city. a dry slot will overtake southern and central iowa in the afternoon cutting us off from much of the snow and rain but still allowing for northwest iowa to see lighter blowing snow. temps will be able to rise above freezing during this time so when the final wave swings through after 5pm tonight we will see rain turning into

sabrina: meterologist sam schreier is keeping a close watch on the conditions... hey sam... sam/ weather adlib: iowa is going to get some light snow across west and central iowa. this will be a very light snow, so totals are expected to remain mainly between about 0.5 to 1.5 inches. the snow will swing through during the early morning hours so the drive into work may be a bit slick, but we should be dry in the afternoon. winds will be light through the day so blowing snow and drifting is not a concern. tonight will be cold and dry with calm and cold conditions. thursday we are going to see cold and calm conditions with a high climbing to around 21 degrees, which is only a degree above where our high should climb today. there may be a few flurries early no friday, but mainly we're just looking at a cold and windy day. as of now there is still a chance we'll see some accumulating snow on valentines day, although likely towards the morning hours for the most accumulation. next week we are warming up with 40s back in the forecast!
