you can see the north bay 2 inches. oakland at 2.07 but the coastal hills getting that lift so from half moon bay southward, you're looking at pretty heavy rain as well. low to mid-50s with very gusty southwest winds. airport delays of over three hours and looking at winds over 35 miles an hour. so low 50s in fairfield. you picked up over 2.5 inches of rain as well since the overnight hours. so we're looking at a rainy and breezy day today. the rain doesn't let up until later on tonight. that's our break, but another wave moves in tomorrow at about this time and that's going to spread another inch to an inch and a half in parts of the south bay. so it looks like the north bay has been getting the heaviest now, but with this train of moisture all the way back to the subtropics, here's the way it looks for the next couple of hours. by 3:00 in the afternoon, it is raining everywhere. maybe not as heavy as it was in the north bay, but we're still looking at the wet weather through 10:00. and then by the overnight hours, this

that's the north bay. threat to drivers this morning. alex. >> reporter: good morning to you. the rain is heavy out here in the east bay this morning, and it is leading to treacherous driving conditions all across the bay area. we'll show you the scene here behind us this morning. just a ton of water. this is 80 westbound, the roadway just covered in water, and we're seeing most drivers taking it slow this morning. the widespread wipers are working extra hard here. all of the o water approaching the -- all of the water approaching the maze, and this storm is starting a lot of spin outs and crashes across the bay area. one situation we ran into this morning at about 5:00 5:00 or so, a box truck and a big rig got into an accident. they were off to the side. a tow truck came in and both of those trucks. the accident didn't seem to be too severe. that was near the gillman exit off of 80 and that was in berkeley. the chp is ordering everybody in order to avoid the crashes, take it extra slow and make sure you d

lots of sandbags were handed out from the north bay to south bay. in oakland the public works agency is making sandbags available for residents and businesses to help prevent flooding. umbrellas were popping up everywhere on san francisco's embarcadero. the wet weather didn't keep tourists or shoppers away from the ferry building today. >>> now to the south bay and john altman who is live along highway 17 in the santa cruz mountains. >> reporter: light rain, some photographic moving at a full clip. the last time some areas of the santa cruz mountains saw rain before this week was back in october. and then they only got about a quarter of an inch. not tonight. a noticeable amount of water is finally cal cading into the san lorenzo river in felton. but it's still not much to make much of a difference. the folks of santa cruz county are used to a lot worse. >> it normally gets trashed. limbs down, trees down, all kinds of crazy tough. >> about as crazy as it's gotten for ben loam sn 3 1/2 inches of rain over the past 24 hours. that's a small fraction o

the usual rain in the north bay -- usually, for the past 48 hours. that fire hose trained itself north of the golden gate and that is where doppler is picking up most of the action. you can see north of this things are drying out a little but from novato and south a swath of rain. this is pretty much how it's been the past 48 hours but some heavier cells are moving south and at least a little east but for much of the bay area this morning it's dry. from hayward and south through san jose and santa clara county you're thinking what is the fuss about? it's about the fact that we've had more than a foot of rain in parts of the north bay, by antioch south of the strait and just a little north of highway 4 pretty good cells coming down. we're all going to get wet by the time this cold front presses south even though now you can see in the south bay nothing coming down. that's been the characteristic of the storm. for the most part san jose only a 10th inch of rain yesterday. down in the peninsula there hasn't been much either. but because in the north bay

strong winds and rain knocked out power to about 1500 people on the peninsula. 1700 customers in the north bay. 114 in san francisco, and 49 in the south bay. the east bay reports 402 outages. power has been restored for some customers and crews continue to work on getting the power back on for others. >>> here is a live look now from our sfo camera. our soaking is causing massive delays at san francisco international. it's operating under a delay program for the entire day. most delays range between 30 and 90 minutes but some flights are delayed by two hours. 59 flights have been cancelled at sfo, while two flights to portland were cancelled out of san jose. no delays or cancellations out of oakland. >>> lake tahoe is under a flood watch today. you're looking live at conditions at heavenly mountain resort courtesy of lake tahoe tv. tahoe get something heavy rain. up to two feet of snow is expected at higher elevations, near 5700 to 8,000 feet. >> tahoe ski resorts are reporting more than a foot of snow. this time lapse video shows a few inches of snow accumulating overnight, friday, into this

it's kind of like a fire hose being pointed right at the north bay. allowed for the east and south bay to escape much of the activity. but in the next hour notice, still looking at the heavy rain, cloverdale, santa rosa. as we bow through the afternoon, that's that second wave that will bring the rain to the east bay. the livermore valley, danville, down toward mountain view and saratoga finally and as it pushes through by 7:00, 8:00, leftover showers south of the bay and we are drawing out for the next 48 hours, possibly longer. so the rainfall potential will be highest north of southern marin. that's sonoma and napa counties. a tenth to an inch elsewhere, lower elevations. so the winter storm warning through 4:00 this afternoon, have to change that to pm, above 7,000 feet. but the snow level fluctuates. it will lower tonight so it will be a rain-snow mix. 57 san francisco, 60 oakland. palo alto 58. and the accuweather seven-day forecast calls for more mild weather tomorrow once the sunshine comes out and we are look at partly cloudy skies on tuesday

the north bay recorded the most rain so far, but san francisco is not far behind. along with the rain, there's also a high wind advisory affecting drivers on the bay bridge. along the embarcadero, we have more there. hello, jas. >> reporter: hi, diane. at surface level we have a light breeze. but there is the wind advisory for anyone traveling across the bay bridge specifically. you should probably take it slowly on any of the bay area bridges. here in san francisco, we really had light rain. no major troubles here in the city. but the farther north you go, the worse things get. as the rain fell, the water flowed. but not every storm drain did its job quite so well. cal trans crews spent time clearing a drain in mill valley. it spelled trouble for those driving through the downpours. still, you won't find many people complaining about it. >> i prefer it. that's why i moved here. >> i've not had enough already, thank you very much. >> definitely love the rain. we've missed it for quite a bit. and we're having a -- we're loving it here. >> it's good for the drought. >

the north bay got like a foot of rainfall, really a disparity there, from about a tenth of an inch in the south bay to about a foot or more in marin or sonoma county. that's how mother nature dished it out. you will likely wake up with low cloud cover. you can see the towers sticking out there, little red lights twinkling. that's the view from oakland. a muggy 67 in san rafael. livermore, about a half inch of rain. that's it for you. san francisco topping out at 58. radar, nothing out there. we likely will stay dry for the next several days. also i want to show you this. the report card. how are we doing after that weekend of soaking rainfall? the snow pack already reporting an 8% jump. great news. but it's still 26%. reservoirs, a jump, but still 56% of normal. and rainfall doubled, folks. we went from 17% of normal to 36% of normal. we have a long way to go. but we took a giant step forward. we are moving in the right direction. overnight tonight, muggy. humid air holds on to the heat more. santa rosa, 40. why are things changing? high pressure is nudging just a little closer to us.
