his argument, first let's take a look at the daily chart of the drg and that's the nyse pharmaceutical index. you can see the drg has experienced a pretty serious selloff of late. this is where a lot of people bottom fish, got killed, bottom fish, not killed. when you look at the indicator, here we go, a terrific indicator that helps technicians figure out if a security has gotten oversold, the index, let's just say, is clearly in oversold territory. that's the kind of reading that offers the bottom. cambridge has one more reason to like the drg chart, the momentum study at the bottom. this is an indicator that helps determine whether a given trend is gaining speed or slowing down. cambridge points out while the drg itself made a lower low in late september versus its previous low in late august, the momentum study indicator actually made a higher low, see, versus there, a higher low in september. this right here is called a bullish divergence. it suggests that even several weeks ago the selloff in the drug stocks was already starting to lose momentum. remember, the drug stocks have a

nyse last night made some changes in the order system.top accepting new stop orders beginning february 26th. they're joining nasdaq who has already done that. brokers still do stop orders but they have to do it internally. this is all about volatile days we had recently, like august 24th, where some stocks closed at 60, opened at 54, then suddenly bounced back. when you have a stop order, and that stock is sold at the bottom and it bounces back, you have unhappy customers. they're trying to raise awareness about the potential risk around volatile trading. i think a lot of people have to start using limit orders and other creative ways to avoid potentially getting stopped out on days when the stock bounces back. it's a sensible answer. they are joining nasdaq who has already stopped doing that. >>> it's going to be a busy day on the fed front. we will hear from a new fed president and get the minutes at two. rick santelli? hi, rick. this could be the fourth day in a row where ten-year note yields close between 2.26 and 2.28 that started on

let's check in with sara at the nyse. high, sara. >> good afternoon. hard to believe just two more months remaining until 2015 is done. just about 50 trading days left in the year. are we setting up for presents under the tree or coal in our stockin stockings? dominic chu is taking a closer look at that question. dom? >> sara, how many times have we talked about seasonality in the markets over our years together here. but let's take a look at this, everyone talks about the santa claus rally and the seasonably strong fourth quarter for stocks. well, let's take a look. our data partners at kensho crunched the numbers and for the last two months of any year over the last ten years, so november to december returns, the s&p is up on average over 1.5%. the dow the same, and they've both been positive in 8 of the last 10 instances. a decent-sized gain although some would point out because of the strong gains we saw in october, maybe those gains get a little muted going into the last two months like we have this year. however, if you're looking for the stocks

bob pisani joins us now from the floor of the nyse. >> tyler, we have a little bit of a minnut mini rally going th. here is your three biggest sectors, health care, financials, and technology. when they're leading, the market is going to be up. they just had the biggest market weightings. it's been a while since transports have been strong. they're leading. railroads are very strong today. canada pacific finally made public some of the details of their offer to take over norfolk southern. it looks like the deal is worth $97. you see norfolk trading at $92 but up 5%. canada pacific, csx, kansas city all trading to the upside. more good news from the retailers. lowe's had good numbers overall, same-store sells up 4.6%. earnings 35%, that's not a typo, year-over-year. they grow their earnings all the time. look at the stock, $20 and change four years ago. now $72 and change. why is the home 'improvement sector doing well? there is more investment because homes are appreciating. i mentioned this earlier, we've got a mini rally going on this week. the s&p 500 after being down 3% last week is u

let's get more with bob pisani at the nyse because you have fears, bob, about retailers reporting this week as well as, of course, the rate sensitive stocks in the firing line as well, right? >> that's right. a number of different issues here. six stocks declining for every one advancing. look what's popped up again, the vix. we haven't seen this move double digits since the end of september. it's 16 and change. i don't get concerned until it's over 20, but this is a move we haven't seen in the last five or six weeks. why the drop? mandy is right, a couple reasons here. there is continuing concerns about the reverberations on higher rates that are out there. there's also cross currents. the global economy is still weak. overnight china reported that exports in october fell for the fourth consecutive month. and finally, we've had one heck of a run in the last six weeks. the general indices are up close to 10% in six weeks. so we're a little overbought. stocks are a little expensive at this point. take a look at interest rate sensitive stocks. they were hit on friday, again today. that's

bob pisani joins us from the nyse floor with more. hey there, bob. >> hi, mandy. a titanic jobs report and traders who are active in the markets are a little disappointed at the lack of action. let's see what's going on here. it's not the brebreadth, it's t volume and volatility. we had a blow out number. traders expected big volume but it's not really materializing. they were also expecting big volatility but essentially it's not happening either. take a look at the vix. not moving, i mean vix at 15, that's not doing too much. up 1.5% is not a move given how important this jobs report was. so a little bit of disappointment down here. certain predictable things did happen. yields move up across the interest rate curve, no surprise here. the interest rate sensitive group, utilities, reits, home builders on the bottom, they're getting hit a little bit. we could have predicted that. we could have predicted the banks being up 2% or 3%. no surprise there. not surprised the dollar index at the highest level since april and since commodities are denominated in the dollar

the nyse and the nasdaq both announcing plans for a moment of silence at 9:25 eastern time. >> it's hard to go from that to some business news. we do have a deal just announced literally within the past minute. it's a big one. marriott international is acquiring starwood for close to $12.2 billion. this is a big deal. a lot of people had expected a transaction to occur with star wood. it was in play. a number of chinese were considered the acquirer. for marriott to come out of nowhere, it's a big transaction. let me give you the details for shareholders looking to be under the terms of the transaction. marriott will be paying or starwood shareholders will receive .92 shares of marriott international and $2 cash. in total we can tell you this represents about $72.08 per starwood share. that's if you look at it over a 20-day period. if you look though you'll see that stock is now down in the free market. the nasdaq is marginally up in part we should just say this stock had moved a lot prior to this. >> that's weird. if you're getting one share of marriott is 72.74 which is wh$7 where it cl
