in guthrie, oklahoma. oklahoma has had more than 100 earthquakes since friday. today's only monday. a bunch of them were accompanied by huge booming explosion sounds. quite a few of them were big enough to cause damage to homes and other buildings. now, the state has hired a new seismologist for the oklahoma geological survey to try to figure out what exactly is going on. and there is this fancy website that we linked to at our blog today that lets you keep track of the quakes as they happen. it's not like the state of oklahoma is in denial or anything. you know what, dozens of earthquakes every day, it's totally possible, of course, that it's all one big coincidence. the earth beneath the oklahoma city suburbs is just being churned up by some big swing away ice crusher or something, right? it will all settle down on its own. one big coincidence. maybe that's what's happening. i will note when the dallas-ft. worth airport needed to stop its earthquake spike a few years ago, they temporarily shut down the wells that were injecting fracking fluid into the ground at high pressure on th

if things keep going at this pace in oklahoma, oklahoma will experience more than 780 significant earthquakesr. and that's not counting all the teeny tiny ones. now, oklahoma is not in denial about its earthquake spike. even before the quite amped up rattling of the past few days and the past few weeks, oklahoma had hired a state seismologist to start looking into why this is happening. the swarm of earthquakes has lasted long enough now in oklahoma that the red cross has begun offering a what to do in an earthquake app to oklahoma residents. knowing to get yourself under a desk or into a door frame is one thing, but knowing what is causing this huge spike in quakes is a whole other deal. the oklahoma state seismologist says it may have something to do with injection wells. where fracking companies inject the wastewater used in fracturing shale and breaking up that rock to get at the natural gas that's trapped inside. the wastewater from that very water-intensive process has to go somewhere and a lot of times they inject that wastewater into injection well sites. the state of oklahoma has mor

the ones from oklahoma and utah which come from some of the same legal ground? >> well, they are complete misreadings of the windsor last year. and there was a misreading of what happened last summer. first of all, the defense of marriage act was not struck down. only amendment three. and to recognize and not recognize marriages from other states. and on proposition eight was not found unconstitutional simply put the people of california were denied their right of the vote by not being given standing in that. and so out of those decisions we have this complete misreading of windsor. what windsor did last year was impose on the federal government the requirement that they respect the state's definition of marriage. in new york they demanded that the federal government recognize her marriage in new york, and windsor decision found that they had to do that. it said nothing about other states recognizing same-sex marriage. what we had in virginia, utah, oklahoma are misreadings of the windsor, and that was clearly indicated when the 10th circuit as well as the feder
