latest in cities across hampton roads --- crews are getting ready for snow. 10 on your side's liz palka is live in virginia beach we are live right by mount trashmore. it's still a bright sunny day here now. but cold enough the people here exercising at the park are bundled up. the area could look a lot different later. virginia beach's public works department is watching the weather and for a change in conditions. spokesman drew lankford says, given what they doubling up their crews. they have what they call "frost patrol." on a normal winter night, those trucks go out and frost patrol will be out at 7 - so right after the evening commute. they'll treat those trouble spots. then trucks will go out again at 1 am and do the same. and if it's bad enough, lankford says they also have a couple thousand tons of salt and sand mixture ready to go. that's what's going on in virginia beach. as wavy news 10 continues at 5, 10 on your side. 10 on your side's liz kilmer is live in newport news. crews here are ready to go in newport news and will be ready to go all night - they are carefully monitor

sue palka is here with what you need to know. >> it's been a long time since we've seen any snow around here. nothing has been able to be measured so far this season. as a matter of fact let me show you some stats that might surprise you. this time last year we had 2.4 inches of snow. and we have broken a record here in dc for longest we've ever gone without a trace of snow. maybe that record gets broken tomorrow. i would remind snow lovers that 80% of the snow we got last year fell after february 15th. it's an alberta clipper because they begin in alberta canada and they move very fast. and that's what you're seeing the snow in the chicago area. here's what i'm expecting in this region. is it going to have a big impact? likely not. and the reason is we'll probably get into the 40s tomorrow. so a lot of the snow we do see will melt as it comes on through. visibility may be the problem and timing is definitely the problem because it's going to snow likely between 4:00 and 7:00, i'm talking snow squalls moving very quickly but that's potential for a slick spot here and there and a very fa
