pryor? >> i would caution the audience to beware about what congressman cotton says in a debate of social security. two years ago when he was running for the house, he was asked a similar question and said he would never do anything to harm people on social security today. guess what? it took him a grand total of five months after that election, five months, and he got the call from his billionaire backers. they told him to vote certain ways. when the aarp look at his voting record, they said his voting record would result in immediate benefit cuts. that means benefit cuts to seniors today. there are two lessons. you cannot trust what tom cotton says in a debate. you cannot trust tom cotton on social security. >> i will remind you the question is specifically which proposals would you support to strengthen the financial health of social security? >> senator pryor once again is trying to confuse the matter because he wants to run from his record on cuts to medicare. $700 million in cuts of se

pryor. pryor: thank you. i would say that my probably largest single, likes of accomplish it was the passage of the consumer product safety improvement act. that's the one that kept, -- cat let out of toys and made toys say. there's no doubt that act has saved the lives. it work. we worked with business. we work with business, consumer groups. we also worked through the process of the book exactly like you learned in eighth grade civics, where we at conferences, we had full on amendments on the floor and in the committees, and it works just perfectly. and it's a good example of how bipartisanship works and how we should do things. in addition to that i passed about 70 pieces of legislation in almost all the bipartisan. that's what i were. 13 of those bills were for our men and women in uniform and our veterans. i'm proud of that. but also i'm proud of the non-legislative accomplishment i've had were picked up the phone and called the ceo and asked them to do a plant expansion of bring that this is to arkansas

pryor? >> thank you. obviously, the farm bill is an important piece of legislation for arkansas. in fact, i think you can argue, of any bill congress passes in a five-year period, the farm bill is probably the most important to arkansas. it covers about 20% of arkansa'' economy because about 25% of our economy is ag-related. there is a clear difference between the two of us in this race because congressman cotton voted against the farm bill. he is the only member of the arkansas delegation to do that. every indicator i have ever seen -- received from anybody in arkansas was that we should support this legislation because it is good for arkansas. let me tell you something. this is not just about the farmers. so much of this legislation is about rural america, things like world electricity, world water, ruralal electricity, water rural broadband. , all those things are in the farm bill. we need those to pass so we can help arkansas stay competive in the global economy. yes, specifically about

mark pryor certainly got the best of that exchange.of legislation that he passed. well, you know, fairly surprised. what's happening to him is happening to the state senator from north carolina. you have two republican states. two red states. a lot of them think they went too far in the state legislature because of them. a lot of moderates and democrats would vote and say, wait a second, these guys are too far out there. i personally thought tom would be up by ten points by now. >> and he's going to be micro targeted. he voted against the farm bill, the women's act. he voted for budget bills on social security. he's going to have to defend himself to constituents in arkansas. he's going to keep it close for at least a bit. >> "washington post" has a piece of mitt romney that says he's feeling the votes from friends. >> yes, we all know this. and he reconnected with supporters in key states. he's been on the trail stumping for gop candidates. romney took a shot at his former rival for the white house while campaigning for joni ernst in

pryor's father was his political mentor. mike ross, nominee for governor got start in politics driving clinton around the state. james lee with it. running for congress. and you know, the thinking is that this year, you've got some pretty tight races that, you know, clinton has the ability to mobilize democratic voters that could have impact and hoping he will be able to reframe the election, reframe the debate. it moved away from anti-obama messaging that republicans were really able to use effectively in arkansas. >> representative tom cotton new to politics or elected to the house recently, up against some big names, some legacy names. how is he doing? >> guest: this has been a tight race. going for over a a year. remained a tight race. very, you know, very stark contrast from what we saw from last senate race four years ago where incumbent democrat was basically running from behind throughout the whole campaign by double digits. this has been tight, heated campaign. and so that is the big difference that we've seen here.

the next panel question will come from dick pryor, managing director of oete. governor, representative, good evening. oklahoma ranks seventh among reliance on all federal founds. more than .43 of all dollars come from the federal government. which do you think are permissible to accept and which ones do not. please explain your ration ell. >> oklahoma taxpayers pay those taxes that go into the federal government. that's the way our democracy in the united states was set up. there are times we have received federal funds that might hurt oklahoma. i'll give you a couple of ideas and examples of that. one of the things we worked very hard over the years and i had the chance to serve in congress on the transportation committee was to make sure oklahoma got its fair funding of money back on the gas tax. we've been able to reduce our -- we've been able to get more of that funding back for our state. certainly medicaid dollars, medicare dollars, always important to the state of oklahoma. social security dollars, same as education dollars. making sure we have control o
